What’s with the adjectives?

This has been a rough work week so I may be more sensitive than normal. I don’t get some of the adjectives hosts and vendors use. I don’t care if my bubbles are bouncy. How does a bouncy bubble help me in any way? I want a body cleanser that actually cleans me. Also, the word “juicy” is way over used. I personally do not want juicy skin. Maybe that is because I suffered from very oily skin well into my 30s or juicy skin makes me think of someone perspiring. I have even heard someone refer to cookware, not what the cookware does, but the actual cookware as “juicy”. Earlier, the host referred to cinnamon buns as “stinking” good. It may have been “great” or “awesome” instead of “good”. I kind of got hung up on the word “stinking” because who really wants that associated with food. I know it’s a phrase, but just seems to be a bad one to sell food.

Can we we just hear what the product actually does instead of relating it to something that makes no sense? If they are running out of things to say about a product, make the presentation shorter. I’m sure there are plenty of words/phrases that all of you have heard, but those are the ones I heard today.

You just need a change of channel. Watch some other equally mindless program. I can suggest one I saw the other day on H&G, I think. It was something about, "First Time Flippers." I'm sure you've never imagined that morons like that walk among us. Since they are so strange, I can't guarentee they won't call something, "juicy."

I think you have to ask yourself why does the Q maintain this forum. IMO they maintain the forum because they want to know what their customers think. I think the last thing management wants us to do is change the channel. You can't make sales if no one is watching and worse yet, if they are bad mouthing the Q to potential customers. The adjectives the the hosts and vendors use are no more than buzz words, but they do get on your nerves after awhile. The hosts want to be hip and appeal to a wide audience, but they just sound stupid and unprofessional.

@Mimichic I agree with everything you said, but it’s not just the talk on Q! It’s everywhere! People just don’t speak well anymore. I like to blame the “K” show and their ridiculous speech patterns and word choices....but, honestly, it’s everywhere!

I understand the use of "buzz" words, but was shocked when a host asked a vendor, when they were showing a set of 3 decorative pillows, if all 3 had a medallion pattern on them, &, when he said no, she replied, "Bummer". Is that supposed to entice consumers? If I were that vendor, I would have been livid.

It's been my observation that many hosts have use the word "stinking" or "stinking cute"

often enough to have me wondering if they were instructed to say it by their boss or supervisor. Certain vendors have picked up on it and say it as well. The amount of times I've heard it used can't be random, in my opinion, and I don't understand how inserting "stinking" to describe any item will boost sales, or for that matter, appeal to any demographic of the QVC audience.

The two phrases that bother me are:

The clothing item fits everyone!!!

The item is selling fast and you need to place your order.

If it sells out and fits everyone I find those statements deceiving. Please stop. I rarely watch and look online to avoid the nonsense.

I agree with the OP one hundred percent.

In the case of the word "stinking," why is that ever allowed? Are the hosts ever advised about such matters? This stuff gets old fast--and it has zero appeal.

When I hear a beauty/body product descibed as juicy on QVC, I can not help but think of the Seinfeld episode where Newman envisions Kramer as a delicious golden brown turkey. That's just where my mind goes.

IMHO the problem with adjectives stems from the fact that they spend too much time on each product. Even if you're describiing the Thanksgiving Day parade, you run out of adjectives after a while. Try doing this with a pair of shoes or a pair of scissors. . Try it with a box of candy. After 15 minutes you've more than said it all, and you have to drift into absurdity, such as AMAZING, PERFECT, AWESOME and so on..

I think it's time to cut back on the time involved in presenting each product. You can say almost everything that needs to be said in about three minutes. Then it slips into nonsense.

Maybe that’s it. These phrases are nothing new, so perhaps the full moon just made them seem more annoying. It was a beautiful moon though.

I just posted on the fashion board that I watched an entire presentation of Catherine Zeta-Jones presenting some sheets, just because she was so lovely. Such a change from what the programming seemed to me to be becoming, or which I'd just gotten really tired of.

I hardly ever watch QVC fpr relaxation (or anything else, actually) anymore, but Catherine was just so classy and professional and it was a pleasure.
