The telemarketing calls have become ridiculous over the past 6 months or so. We have been on the Do Not Call list for years, and I know we get more calls now than we ever did before. In addition, when you tell them not to call, they have become very arrogant and combative. I don't need this kind of daily aggravation. I actually had one caller tell me that they would call me whenever they wanted to.

I nap sometimes during the day, because I don't sleep well. And, I have my grandson here several days a week, and they invariably wake him from a nap. The calls have just become too much to handle. And, a couple of weeks ago, they started calling early on Saturday morning...which is our morning to sleep in.

So, I made the decision to turn off the ringers a few weeks ago. There is still one ringer on in the basement, which I may or may not hear if I am awake. But, I have many phones through the house and can tell at a glance if someone has called. If it's a legitimate call, they can leave a message. And, those closest to me know to call my cell phone. My goodness, things have become so peaceful around here. We bought a new phone for our kitchen, which has a call block feature. It doesn't allow any calls to come through that don't have a posted phone number. This has also been helpful.

We need our landline phone because of our home security system, and because I routinely use my home fax. I also like knowing I have it in case of bad weather or other emergency when the cell lines jam up. But, I have realized that it is totally up to me as to whether I want to answer it or not. My husband is fine with the plan also, as any calls that he might receive from work usually come through his cell phone.

It hasn't been an inconvenience at all. And it was the only way I could think of to fight back. I'm hoping that, over time, we'll end up on some sort of "dead" list, and the calls will totally stop. Just thought I'd share....
