A Sweet Dog Story

Last week my daughter, her husband and their dog were hiking part of the Appalachian trail in Georgia. The second day out the dog began limping and by the end of the day refused to walk. They set up camp early and let the dog rest. The third day they were heading back and about 8 miles out she refused to walk again.

There they were carrying a tent, food and water supplies and whatever else they needed.

They stopped and constructed a 'stretcher' for her and the two of them carried the 20 some lb. dog on the 'stretcher' for 8 miles to the parking lot. They said she was so good, just laid down, and rested.

She rested in the car all the way back to Fl. and as of yesterday was fully recovered.

She loves hiking with them and is a very muscular fit dog.

Cute - but did they check the dog's feet to see if a pebble or small stone got wedged in between the pads? My dog picked up a crystal of winter salt for thawing ice - and she came in the house limping.

@fthunt @gmkb Good idea.

There are dog paw protection "booties" designed for tough terrains. Might be something to check out.

@fthunt I asked them if something was bothering her paw rather than her leg. They did say they checked her paws. But thank you for mentioning that possibility.
