No. Our carving days are over unless there are grandkids some day.

I do miss that time of our lives, but I certainly couldn't keep up with the work of art that pumpkin carving has become! We did simple faces with triangle eyes and nose!

@MominohioHa! So did we as kids. But as the template kits started to take off we used them with DS and with GS. GD is too young but I find the really artistic ones something else to see.

We use the artificial pumpkins now, too, for carving but miss toasting the seeds.

No, I won't be carving. In fact, when I bought my pumpkin a week or so ago, I coated it with a very thin layer of liquid cayenne to ward off the squirrels and chipmunks! I'd like it to last until Thanksgiving, if possible. After that, I'll wipe it off and put it in the woods for the critters to snack on.

Last year, I had to try to tape over some of the areas where the critters had munched on it before halloween. I'm trying to outsmart them this year!!! (I love the critters, but they can't have at my pumpkin just yet!!!!)

Nope. We've gone thru our kids, our grandkids and now we're into greats. They can do their own pumpkins now, and we're happy to pass along the tradition. We've adopted a Let 'em Live attitude toward the orange globs.

Oh yes. We're lucky enough to have our gk live across the street. Our neighborhood has the best pumpkin patch with a corn maze, old tractors for the kids to climb on and of course hundreds of pumpkins to pick from and stacked hay bails for picture taking. It's a fun time. Then we go home for the carving.

It wouldn't feel like Halloween at our home if we didn't carve a pumpkin. We bought our pumpkins, but won't carve until the 30th, they really don't last long. I love the flickering glow of a candle inside a jack o' lantern!

This brings back fond memories of doing it with our kids. One year we actually grew our own pumpkins. When we were done with them as decoration, I'd cut up the pumpkin for pies and pumpkin bread. Tried it when we first moved here, but the pumpkin didn't fare well in the warm Florida days. These days my pumpkin pies and bread are made with the stuff from a can.

Of course! This year I will carve one and make a critter out of another (no carving) with other small squashes and fruits to create it.

We always decorate too. We make the front lawn look like a graveyard. We have a 4 1/2 tall animatronic dancing singing pirate that turns on by a sensor when someone approaches. It still startles me sometimes.

I also make what DH has named BORIS. Now I do no like spiders, but this one is cute.

I take a really large styrofoam ball for the body and a smaller one for the head. I connect them together with a short light stick. I put flat glass marbles on his face for eyes. Now the whole body and eyes are lit. Next I take the glow necklaces and make them straight, connect two together and stick them in the sides of his body for the legs.

Put a a small eye hook in and hang from the tree out front.

We also have the light show things with ghosts, spooky trees and witches. And a cauldron we fill with dry ice.

Its fun 🎃

No, I tried carving a pumpkin once when my girls were 4 or 5. Let's just say....it wasn't a pretty sight. After that fiasco, we drew funny faces on our pumpkins with blac markers. Now I leave the pumpkins in their natural state. I do tablescape on the sideboard. More Autumn themed than Halloween because I leave it up through Thanksgiving. My friend and I going to a local farm stand to buy pumpkins to complete our decorations. This year I some mini white pumpkins. I saw them last year, I also some heritage pumpkins that are a natural bluish color. Hope I see some this year.

I haven't carved a pumpkin in 20+ years.

They rot so quickly.

By the end of a week, they are gross.

No more carving, I do have a fake pumpkin I got from QVC years ago that has a great carved face, I put a small luminara in it and put on the porch......
