HSN and Irma...

UPS just delivered a package from HSN; in passing the driver said "Hope they evacute all those folks down there".

So, an off the wall thought hit me: do you think HSN will be off the air considering the danger of the situation? My aunt and uncle lost their home to Andrew; I mean... there was nothing but a bare plot of land after it was over. I would hope no employer would expect people to hang around, you know?

@SahmIamI think it's maybe 24 hours too early to make final decisions for HSN totally, but those who feel they must evacuate because of age and/or health issues need to be aware already today.

I know my neighbors far south of HSN and on the Florida east coast where the current threat seems the worst are mostly watching and prepping to be supplied in place. Tomorrow could be a different story though.

Don't quote me but the last storm that hit dead on there on the west coast, I want to say it was Charley but I can't remember, I purposely turned that station on just to see if they were on air. They were!

I have family that lives near Naples and I was comforted that if HSN was still broadcasting, they were probably good too.

@millieshops You're absolutely right. The thought popped into my head when I he said that.

My question really should have been: I wonder if HSN would go off the air or would they actually make some stay there to go on air. How odd it would be to see them knowing all that would be happening around them. I sincerely hope it doesn't come to that; that Irma goes off and all are safe.

HSN is in Clearwater, West Coast of Fl belwo is a weaher forecast for the weekend and going forward. It appears not to e in the direct path of Irma

@I am still oxox I sincerely hope so. I'm not following it closely but getting updates via this forum when I'm online. This following picture made me wonder just how bad it's truly going to be. I may have read it wrong but it was showing how the entire state was going to be hit due to the size and strength. Again, seeing that and then speaking to the UPS driver, the though popped into my head. In the end, we really won't know for awhile. Peace and stay safe to all those in the path.

I don't recall which storm it was, but during one horrible weather event, they aired from a different location (city).

It's over 100 miles from Punta Gorda where Charley hit to Clearwater where HSN is.

Charley was only 8 miles wide, one of the smalest ever.

Irma is 400 miles wide. A big difference.

@santorini I remember this. It was Bill Green and a couple other hosts and I believe they were borrowing space from Shop at Home. It was bare bones and they were all punch drunk from lack of rest by the time HSN was able to resume broadcasting from Clearwater . . . I really give them all credit as they were running on fumes at the end.

@Zhills That's it! My family lives in Punta Gorda. I thought they were closer together than that. Although 100 miles doesn't mean much to a major hurricane. Thanks!

Honestly, I just saw a post on FB from Colleen and I thought that same exact thing as the OP.

I do hope they go to Philly and use the studios there.

HSN is in Tampa/St. Pete, not Clearwater. I remember during a segment Colleen said she lives in Clearwater and has about a 45 minute drive to get to HSN studios.

I also remember when a hurricane was going to hit that area. They had America Store broadcasting at the time as well as HSN. They shut down AS broadcasting and I believe moved to Georgia to broadcast HSN.

Tee hee @Shelbelle I believe it was TN as that was where the original Shop at Home cable channel was located (fun fact, Lisa Robertson was a host there!) and they were later acquired by Jewelry Television.

What you're seeing on that map is the "cone of uncertainty" which shows the area that the path of the hurricane might take. It doesn't represent the size of the hurricane in any way.

It's looking from the latest forecast that it'll be going right up the east coast of Florida. My DIL is from St. Pete, and her mother still lives in Clearwater, so I'm feeling a little bit better for her. But my niece and her family live on the east coast of Fla., so this isn't good news for them. Fortunately they've evacuated - five children to keep safe.
