Mens' Wedding Attire

Having attended a wedding over the weekend and having one in our family's future, I have concern over the fashions displayed by men in the wedding party. The suits looked ill fitting (short, tight) as well as wrinkly. My DS advised that that was the fashion. Oh my! Have jackets and slacks that hang without wrinkles gone away? Anyone else noticing this or have advice?

I haven't been to a wedding in a few years, but I have noticed more men wearing the skinny jeans. And people in general seem to have no use for irons anymore, it seems like being in a wedding party would be a good reason to use one, however.

short and tight is the style. wrinkly depends on the fabric.

As far as advice, mine is to keep your opinions to yourself unless you're the bride or groom.

i cannot answer the wrinkly part, but short and tight suits have been in now for at least a year or more.

Here we go again.....lol Fashions, even wedding styles for men change over time and we all know that we now live in an informal, every goes world. I don't about tight but I do know that young fit men's suits and pants are tighter and thinner. My husband says tailors call it a "european fit". Thin guys can carry it off. I go to 2 or 3 weddings a year and I've seen it all. And it's all ok. Wedding clothes are just wedding costumes and the old rules don't exist now. Couples do it their way. Last summer, my friend's daughter had a traditional church wedding and reception. She wore a gorgeous gown and veil and the bridemaids wore long gowns but the men decided to be creative. They wore jeans with cowboy boots and coloful vests that coordinated with the bridesmaid's dresses over white shirts. No cowboy hats...lol I thought it was a little odd at first. It was not a western style wedding. A couple of the guys had pressed or brand new jeans, a couple had their regular everyday jeans. But in the end, what difference did it make? It was still a beautiful wedding.

I'm not a fan of the shorter, tighter fitting style men's jackets. To my eyes, it looks like the wearer outgrew the jacket, 20 pounds and 3" ago. Recently we attended a wedding where the men wore, light grey, tight fitting tuxes, purple shirts with brown shoes. Awful.

As for the wedding party, hopefully someone will suggest the wedding party wear a more traditional fit. When I look at my parents' wedding pictures and our pictures, both my father and husband wore almost identical formal attire. On the other hand, at my sister-in-law's wedding, the groom (and his groomsmen) wore ruffled shirts, huge bow ties, and wide lapels piped with velvet.

Laughter should not the first reaction when you look back on your special day.

In general, I've noticed over the past six months or so ... more of the younger guys are wearing the more fitted suits.

They remind me of the style in the 1960s when they were wearing the narrow pants, shorter jackets and skinny ties. Think Beatles!

We've had a number of weddings we attended this year. I think it depends on the age and build of the wedding party. One we attended, the groom was older (50 something) and he wore the traditional straight leg pants with more room for his legs.

We most recently attended a wedding and the couple were in their early 20's as was the majority of the bridal party and the guys wore almost what I would call skinny tux pants. They were more tight fitting, all the way down, including the ankle.

I would love for men to wear top hats and tails again and nothing should be wrinkled.

Men's pants in general are sporting a thinner silhouette. I don't really like the skinny pants on men, nor the baggy look either.

i don't mind a more trimmer jacket if the man is thin, but if too short, they look too girlie to me.

Have you seen the round school girl look collars on men's cotton button down dress shirts?

Fashion changes, but It is quite something to see men's fashions look more like women's wear, instead of the other way around.

It is customary for men to wear tails after 6 pm. My DH and wedding party wore tails, but no top hats. Men shouldn't wear hats indoors, but I have been to a few outdoor evening weddings where Top hatswere worn and the guys carried walking sticks.

My son was the best man at his best friend since kindergarten wedding just recently. They all looked like they stepped out of the GQ magazine. The guys wore the skinny suits and looked fab because although they were all different heights, they were very fit. Even their hair looked fabulous. Most of them had beards that were groomed to perfection and although they all didn't have great hair like my son lol, they were a sight to behold.

Unless someone asks your opinion on this, I'd say just zip your lip! I'm 69 and I love how couples are more fluid and creatvie in wedding attire!

Haven't been to a wedding in ages but I saw a man in the grocery store Sunday. Of all places. He had the most impeccably tailored suit I have ever seen. Very slim build, shoes absolute perfection. Don't know where he came from or where he was going after, but honestly I could not stop staring. It was such a wow.

If I had been bold enough I would have told him so, not in any sort of creepy or inappropriate way of course. Just a sincere compliment. It was the juxtaposition too, he's just pushing a grocery cart looking like that. Straight out of the pages of GQ.
