This is the generation AFTER the Millenials, those born between 1995 and 2012.

From what I have read, they are more inclined to not want to get their driver's license, get that first job, live at home longer, and date less.

Thoughts?

@Plaid Pants2 My thought is that as long as we don't assume the statistic tells us about ALL in the generation, there's truth in it overall. But it's a small sample because a huge percentage of the population in those years are not old enough to live away from home, have jobs, etc. Makes me want to wait another few years and see what statistics show when that group ages a bit.

The one and only among my relations who fits into the category just started her second college year. She finished her summer job at noon last Thursday after which she returned to campus that same after noon. Just doesn't fit the generalization - and if she follows in her sister's footsteps, she'll graduate in the traditional 4 years, have a job and not live at home. Again, a check-in later is in order, but so far, so good.

I like the idea that they don't plan to drive...less pollution and there will be better public transit.Stay at home longer?That would be okay with me as my son left at 17 for college and never moved back home.I felt it was too soon as I loved having him around.

They need to get on with it. Get the driver's license, get a job for goodness sake. In many areas of the country, mass transit isn't an option and driving is essential.

Except the 5 year olds. They can ride their bikes.

I know someone whose son is 19 or 20 and has no desire to get his driver's license. I don't understand it at all. He is a little different about a lot of things, but to me being able to drive is essential.

That makes them age 5 to 22.

A little early to start judging them or characterizing them, especially those five year olds. Darn those child labor laws.

@Plaid Pants2 Where are the stats for this because somebody born in 2012 is still too young to drive/get a job/date. Or even think about it.

So at what age does this survey have validity?

My grandkids are both turning four this coming week -- no job prospects, terrible drivers, no marriage partners in sight -- little moochers. 😏

I have a nephew who was born in '96. He is far from this iGen mold. He is in college, has a job, a car and lives in his own apartment with his girlfriend.

I have a nephew who is 32. Remembering back, he was in no rush to become an adult. He wasn't in a hurry to get his drivers' license. Had no plans for post high school, etc. He is an only child, intelligent, but he just matured slower. My poor brother was so distressed. However when he met his future wife, an ambitious young lady, he made a complete 360. I just don't know if we can really categorize people by generations.

iGen not wanting to drive makes sense if they live in a big city. Cities are becoming more welcoming to bike riders, hence FordGoBike makes renting bikes very user friendly and access is easy, and simple. Or buy your own bike. Mass transit, yes, but not so great

Uber, Lyft are good alternatives. Personally, I like independence, hence I love a driver's license

@Plaid Pants2, Maybe because he was born in 1995, just made the cut but our son couldn't wait to get his drivers license, got an exception, only child and got it at 15 years old. He graduated at 17, left for college. Didn't work the first year but he's been working since. We still help him since he's still in school. We got him a truck for Christmas but he pays insurance and we also help with $200 a month. He's been a great son, we are truly blessed.

There can be very little validity in generalizing about an entire generation, especially as regards to driving, getting a first job, living at home longer and dating less.

It's almost entirely irrelevant as far as the 5-16 year olds, and those 17-22 are still in HS or college, so there's nothing surprising about them still living at home. How do you live at home "longer" when the very oldest is 22?

First jobs? There are fewer entry level jobs out there for students and this has been true for years. Can't get a job if you look and there aren't any. Same thing with living at home - the economy. It's much less affordable to rent, even with rooommates, than it was for previous generations. Dating? Well, after tossing out those 5-14 (more than half), it's not a bad thing.

Very little, if any, of the criteria, has sufficient numbers to come to any conclusion about the group. How do you quantify the future lifestyle choices of 5-14 year olds?

@mistriTsquirrel The site has been wonky for a few days. I assumed @Plaid Pants2 couldn't log in with her usual account. I also think it's possible she accidentally created a new account, because that almost happened to me yesterday. Whoops!
