Wow...can't believe tomorrow marks 40 years since his passing....I'm sure he wasn't everyone's cup of tea; he was a bit before my time, and the kids would tease me because I liked Elvis ....whatever...I liked him anyway, still do...I was 13 when he passed...remember it like many passings in ones life time...mostly with sadness and shock...but now his music makes me smile...so if you loved him, crank up one of your favorite Elvis tunes tomorrow and smile

I loved Elvis.He had the most incredible voice.I have never heard anybody sound anything like him.I miss his uniqueness!!

I'm sure Elvis is entertaining all the angels in heaven!!

I can't believe it has been 40 years. Where did the time go. I can remember as a young teen sitting on my front porch listening to Elvis on my pink and black faux leather portable transister radio (remember those?). Boy was he good looking! I thought how sad when he got drafted. Being so young, I thought that was the finish of everything. Goes to show what I knew! I remember him on the Ed Sullivan show where they could only show him from the waist up. Boy would Ed turn over in his grave to see what passes for entertainment on TV now.

Elvis was the King of Rock 'n Roll. It's really sad that his life was so short. He got caught up into what others do in the music business. My girlfriend went to see him in Vegas in his late years and she told me he split his pants and had to leave the stage. He really was a true performer. I am sorry I never saw him in concert.

I remember being on the freeway with the radio on and hearing the news of his death. I probably should have gotten off the freeway at that point, because I was most definitely "all shook up."

And yes, I sure do remember transistor radios. I loved mine, which came in a really nice British tan leather case. I used mine all the time.

Had all of his Gospel released music on CD/some on Laserdisc and DVD. Lost most of it during our basement sewage flood. Still have several that were not in the basement at that time during my 6+ days of hospitalization.

Saw him live in Concert here 4 out of his 5 visits. Missed 1 because of being in the hospital in 1974 having back surgery. Saw him live in concert in August not long before he died. He did not look good, but his voice was the best I had ever heard him sing. He was/is the King of music to me, specifically Southern Gospel Music. Live in concert when backed by J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet, and the Sweet Inspirations, with Kathy Westmoreland.

Rest in Peace Elvis.

He was/is also my King of Southern Gospel Music, where it all began for Elvis.

Elvis could rock it, twang it, croon it, make soul/R&B sound like it was his, and gives me shivers with his gospel renditions. He was a master of vocalizing any form of music he decided to perform. Love always to Elvis!

One more thing, out of the mouth of babes (as in little girls). In one instance the girl was watching an Elvis movie and she commented on how cute he looked in his swimming trunks. The other girl (from a different family in a seperate situation) asked if I had Elvis records. I have an extensive music collection so it was a reasonable inquiry. When I asked why she wanted to hear Elvis Presley, the response was she had heard some of his songs on TV liked what she heard.

Adored that man , from the time i sat on the floor at my grandmas house ,with my aunt she was 8 yrs .older than i,watched for the first time this singer called elvis,on a black and white tv,i was hooked.
When every one loved the beatles,i loved ELVIS.

I was 17 and at my college orientation. We were all sitting around talking when someone walked by and said that Elvis was dead. We all reacted the same way. It's a joke, right?

A product of the British Invasion, I didn't really appreciate him until 1972. When Burning Love was on the charts I had a dream about him and woke up a fan.

Incredible voice. He was the King.

We happened to be in Memphis on the 20th anniv. of his death. Went ot Graceland, highly recommend, a fabulous tour, the house, his plane, and Elvis and family all buried out in the back yard.

I was in high school and I was working at a drug store the day he died. A lady came through my line with many of Elvis' albums. The lady behind her in line commented to her about being a big fan and she told her that he had passed away. I thought that poor woman was going to faint. She lost color in her face and raced to the "Record Dept". I remember so many people being upset and sad. He did and still does have a great following

TCM is running a Elvis Marathon. One of my favorites is "Jailhouse Rock": I consider the song in the movie one of the best music videos. Elvis was definitely a ground breaker!

WOW,,,thanks for posting this thread.

HE is beloved by my husband and I. I have so many of his cds, and many head shots that I purchased yrs ago. From early stages , to army, to priscilla time, to the end.

LOVED him through all the stages.

There are those certain songs, that still to this day, make me pause and get teary eyed. Cant help falling in love and American trilogy, in the ghetto.

And when Lisa Marie did the remake of IN THE GHETTO with his voice dubbed in...oh my. beautiful.

His voice was perfect to us.

And his LIPS,,,oh my those lips.

A GREAT ONE MISSED !
