I'll Always Love A Dog Named Beau...Poem written by James Stewart.

Anyone remember when Jimmy read this poem about his dog on the Tonight show? I came across this today on Youtube and remember how I cried when he read it. First time I saw Johnny tear up.

I sure do remember it, and it reminds me of when my daddy would play the guitar and sing 🎶 old shep. Always tugged at the old heart strings.

@croemer I have a printed copy of this from the newspaper (now, quite yellowed) under the glass on my desk. Every once in awhile I read it and it always brings tears to my eyes.

We own a dog named BEAU. He is a Weimaraner. He's not exactly like Juimmy Stewart's dog, but we love our Beau.

My dad sang that song of old shep to us too, that about killed me too.

@croemer, I had a white English bulldog named Beau, we had him for 6 wks. till 10 yrs old, when he got pancreatic cancer and we had to put him to sleep! There will never be another dog on the face of the Earth like our sweet Beau ....... We miss him so much!

@qualitygal I have an Elvis Presley cd that includes Old Shep. When it starts to play I have to skip over it because if I don't it will cause the tears to flow. We've all been through the loss of a beloved pet - or pets and it just brings back sad memories. I now have an 11 year old yellow lab with health issues and when his time comes I will be once again heart-broken - but I will remember all the good years we had. It's all part of what we sign into when we adopt.

My husband refuses to listen to Old Shep. Whenever I played an old Elvis cd I had that included that song, when it came on, he would leave the room or even put his hands over his ears.

I had forgotten about this. Thanks so much for the reminder. I just snotted up all over my desk.

My dog, you see, is getting to "that age." There's white hair around his mouth and he doesn't mind if his walks are shorter. He spends more time now lying in the sun and taking naps.

I was rubbing his leg the other night and felt a small lump.

I just want more time with this one. He's the best.
