I'm not sure if I've purchased during the back to school tax breaks, but have read here on the boards the q does the tax break.

I've placed online orders during the tax free weekend (Ohio) before, and it worked fine. I don't know how they do it with all the different states, but I'm quite sure all the shopping channels will honor it.

It's not tax free for the entire country, our tax free weekend is in a couple of weeks. Some states don't have one. There is no way that QVC can track that type of thing. The y could have their own QVC tax free weekend but they would still have to pay taxes to the various states, so I do not see that happening.

@Shanus I don't know but perhaps you might ask the question in Customer Care??

Since some states have tax free and some don't, and since the states that do have different week-end dates, to me it would be a nightmare for them. But then again I'm not an IT person.

Retailers do not CHARGE taxes - horrors! They just COLLECT what our legislators tell them to.

I really know only 3 states (FL, NY, and PA) and their taxes and their tax-free rules all vary. I suspect every state has all kinds of sales tax rules for these holidays, so if QVC or any other retailer collects tax on something they shouldn't, I'd call and ask what happened.

I can't imagine how many computer programming changes have to happen for these weekends. I have never had an issue here, but there's always a first time. Stay calm and check. Sorry to say, but I do feel very strongly that protecting your money is more your job than theirs.

I live in NYC and don't pay sales tax on clothing unless it's over a certain amount (maybe $110). I shop a lot in Nassau County and am charged sales tax. I order online a lot to get around the tax.

@chrystaltree There is a way they can and do track it. I imagine the companies receive a notice from from the states' tax office advising them not to charge tax on certain merchandise certain dates. I've never been charged a penney by QVC for tax on covered merchandise during our tax free weekend.

They could, I just don't think they will. There's nothing in it for them. Plus the whole point of those tax free weekends is to assist local businesses.

QVC would have the goodwill of its customers in mind, not to mention that it becomes the law in each state.

Taxes are constantly changing everywhere, on a daily basis, and not just state taxes. My tax rate in the county in which I reside is different from the state rate. Businesses must get notices through a computer service of these constant changes so they can keep abreast of the correct tax rates.

I just ordered something from QVC (IM sweater blazer on Lunchtime Specials) and there was no tax charged. I'm in Florida & this is our tax-free weekend.

I might have to order the blazer in a second color...

You're absolutely right! I've shopped here for 25 years and they've always honored our state's tax free week-end.

And I'm in GA, so they DO keep up with each state's tax free week-end.
