Michelle Carter To Get 2 1/2 Years In Texting Case

Michelle Carter, whom texted to her boyfriend to commit suicide, will get 2 1/2 yrs of the 20 yr. limit.

He had already been on psychiotic meds.

Viscious texters should be held responsible for their actions, IMO.

There were probably flags years earlier that went unnoticed concerning the type of aggression that this behavior comes from. It doesn't materialize over night. I feel so sad for everyone concerned.

She definitely deserves to serve more time that that!! However, there must have been signs that he clearly suffered from something like depression or mental issues. I guess I just don't see how someone could have that much control over another person.

She is required to serve 15 months with the remainder suspended. She is free on bail pending her case going through the appeals process.

Michelle Carter was sentence to 15 months in prison,but she will be free until her appeal process goes thru the court. Justice is indeed sometimes blind.

And that could take up to 18 months........think the judge got it wrong.....

I was not surprised at any of this: the guilty verdict, the sentence, and the stay of her sentence.

I also believe that this conviction will be overturned on appeal. I wouldn't agree with it but I believe her lawyer made some very strong points and I also believe the judge did get it right.

I'm praying for all in the case having taught. Something has gone wrong somewhere and this is the end result of years of disfunctionalism.

He had a long history of depression and had been suicidal before but that was never the issue. The thing was that she kept pushing and pushing and pushing him to do it. She was relentless because was actually having second thoughts about doing but she was someone he trusted and she pushed all the right buttons and wouldn't let up. She's a psycopath and there's no guarantee that she'll go to jail. The law is murky at best with this type of thing and she will appeal. She's out on bail pending an appeal now.

I'm very concerned about the precedent that the ruling in this case may set. At what point do the words of others eclipse the autonomous choices that we make? I realize this is an extreme circumstance involving a victim who had severe mental issues, but a ruling like this could open a door for future rulings that could lead to laws which eventually start to really limit our free speech and denigrate our responsibility as citizens and human beings to simply take basic care of ourselves. Yes, she is a monster, but I am concerned about where this could end up going.

She is only going to serve 15 months of the sentence and she is currently out on probation while her lawyer appeals to the Mssachusetts courts. His basis is that this is a precedent setting case that should be appealed on the grounds that the crime happened not with verbal communication but with non verbal texts. This could influence other cases in the future.

Now if it were up to me she would be in prison tonight serving 5 years and if the peron sitting behind her in the with the long dark hair was her mother, I can see partially why she is the way she is. This woman was staring at herself in the camera and making faces clutching the cross around her neck. When the judge at the end of the sentencing said that he wanted to refer to something that the mother of Conrad had said this woman made a face in the camera. We are not allowed to say what I would like to say right now.

He was OUT OF THE CAR - and she told him to get back in and finish it. IMO she is one evil person. This young man supposedly was her boyfriend, so shouldn't she want to have him around? I think she needs help, and I also think she needs to serve some time.

Another "BS" sentencing. Family members were just saying tonight that it appears that judges are being easier on the more violent crimes when they're not OBVIOUS violent crimes so people will continue to do them.

I'm disgusted but I'm nobody so....yeah.
