EX-HUSBAND INVADING DREAMS

Ex-husband and I were divorced many, many years ago (1987)! Life has moved on and ( was married to my second husband for 13 years before cancer took him. I am now married again and am very content and happy - more than I've ever been. My one issue is that my first husband shows up in my dreams and it's always in a way that we will be getting back together. The last time I ran into him was about 9 years ago and we talked a bit and went our separate ways. Now, I'll be honest and say I was head-over-heals in love with my first husband - he was my first true love - but again that was a lifetime ago! But why do you think he still intrudes in my dreams? It gives me an uneasy feeling the whole day!

I don't want to sound flip but don't think too much about it.

I have disturbing dreams of all kinds about all family members, past & present and I chalk it up to just that - a dream.

For whatever reason your ex may have been on your mind yesterday, you can't erase the past so I would try to just forget it.

i believe you may have unanswered questions left.

you should see a therapist to talk about these dreams.

something is bringing the ex to forefront of dreams once you face these unanswered questions i think the dreams may suside.

I wouldn 't worry about why your ex-is showing up in your dreams.

You are happy with the life that you have now, so whenever your ex shows up in your dreams, when you wake up, just say, "huh, that was interesting" and let it go at that.

I was married for 21 years and divorced for about the same length of time. My ex husband shows up in my dreams every now and then. He had a very negative impact on my life and is usually telling me what to do or how I'm doing it wrong in my dreams (nightmares?). When I wake up I'm so relieved to realize he's not really there!

If you just dreamed of him once or twice I would say it's nothing, but I've found that when there is a recurring theme in my dreams there's usually something behind it. Then once I figure out why I keep dreaming about the same thing, the dreams go away. It's like my brain is trying to tell me something, and I have to figure out what it is.

Just last night my ex husband was in one of my dreams. We divorced 25 years ago and he has been deceased 19 years. The role he usually plays when he shows up in my dreams is one of annoyance and frustration.

I don't dwell on it.

Chalk it up as just a dream. I also have an ex who creeps into my dreams from time to time.....but so do others from my past like old friends, co-workers, etc.

I do not have an ex husband to dream about. I do occasionally dream about my high scholl boyfriends. No big deal. Dreams are part of our past.

@Spinach30 Why do YOU think he is in your dreams?

He is not necessarily your ex-husband in these dreams but a representative of someone/something else. The someone/something else can be presented in the form of your ex-husband but it doesn't mean that is who it is.

Unless you feel you need therapy over this because of the "uneasy" feeling you experience, my suggestion is to let it be.

Oh wow, I could have written your post. Except my dreams are about my high school/college boyfriend. I was head over heels in love with him too. Then we somehow just grew apart and split up. But ALL the dreams revolve around me chosing him over the man I did marry. The dreams were quite frequent for a very long time, then not so frequent, but I still have them to this day. I used to tell my husband about the dreams, which was probably not so smart. I don't tell him anymore. Frankly, I enjoy the dreams as a little bit of romance, and leave it at that.

I always have a man by my side in my dreams - but can't see his face, but have a feeling of being very comfortable with this person. I was married before, but have no issues with the end of it. I always wonder who this person is. Guess it could actually be my dad who died when I was 9 - doesn't necessarily have to be a lover.

I was having a recurring dream too and did not want to anymore so incensed was I over this man that I made sure to tell him to leave me alone when I dreamt of him again. No more dreams with him in it. When you're in that dream state when you start to wake but are still sleepy, allow yourself to go back to sleep and then tell him off loud and clear so he understands. It worked for me despite the naysayers who say it's not real, etc, it still has an impact.

@truffle The person is still in your memory regardless if you want to remember him or not. Therefore, looking at your other post, it seems this person represents something repressed by you that makes you uncomfortable-be it him or something else.

You told him to leave you alone; perhaps you had already resolved something ELSE and by telling him to go away minimized whatever issue he represented to you.
