Interesting phone spoof

The caller ID said LDS CHURCH and some local phone number... So I pick up the phone just curious and it is the same phone call I get about once a day. An automated ladies voice that goes on and on about how they have been trying to reach me about my credit card bla bla bla. I find it funny that they would use LDS church as the call from number.😄 Everyday it is a new caller ID from them.

And yes I know I can just not answer it, but I actually enjoy hanging up on them.

I sometimes answer calls from unknown numbers if it's convenient for me. Once I know they're robocalls, I block the numbers

@elizabethl123, be extremely careful saying yes to any of those calls. There is a scam going around where they try to get you to say yes and it is a scheme to sign you up for some bogus subscription and they use your "yes" as proof you ordered.

Unfortunately I don't recall all the details but it was discussed on the boards a few weeks ago and was on the news.

Same thing happened to me, I was on my way to the dentist and my phone range with a local number saying NY dentist. I stopped to answer thinking, is it my dentist and it was

A lady selling security systems, what in the world!!!

When your phone rings unless I know the person I am skeptical and non trusting of the caller. My mother has a saying Trust no one!!!

That saying is more true today then ever.

I got a call two days in a row from FPC. The second day they left a message on my answering machine. They said there was a warrant for my arrest and they were on their way. I'm still waiting.......

After answering too many calls from robots, I have started interrupting with, "Are you a robot?" If / when there is no response, I hang up. Once, after receiving the robot's greeting, I asked that question. After a brief pause, the caller replied, "No! Oh dear, I need to work on my phone voice, don't I?" I still didn't buy whatever he was selling, but at least we both got a laugh out of that one.

@SeaMaiden I got a call today from "Spalding Hospital" so I answered thinking someone could be hurt. Turned out to be a recorded call about a medical alert device. I was so mad I called the hospital after looking up the real number and told them what was happening and gave them the number from the caller id. They were not happy and said they would look into it.

I have a policy, if I don't know the name shown on my caller I'd I don't answer PERIOD!!!!!

If they don't leave a message, I will watch and see if they call again, if they calk a second time and still don't leave a message the call is BLOCKED!!!

Super Scam, sounds like IRS scam where you owe taxes.

My coworker was scammed by the Microsoft scam and she sent 300.00 in gift cards to the person.

I was shocked that she fell for the scam when it is on the news everyday!!

Got a call with no ID except phone number. I was not thinking, thought it was my daughter trying to make contact while traveling. In any case it WAS FROM OUR LOCAL SHERIFFS OFFICE (not really). Told me about court appearance, jury duty ... I stopped them cold and told them I was too old for jury duty in our state. Hesitated, and then they said they were coming to get me. I knew it was a scam but I have too much respect for our local law enforcement so I called the Sheriffs office to report it and they insisted on coming right out. Felt very honored. Nice young man who may have been in my 6tth grade class long ago.

WARNING: NEVER USE THE WORD YES. When they asked me if I was Bonnie I said "what is this about?"

It's been discussed here so many times but bears repeating.

If you don't recognize the number or you've never done business with the entity the caller ID references, don't answer!!! Don't play games with them. Don't ask them questions. Don't answer the phone!!!!

If it's a robo call, they track live answers and note it as a good number. They will keep on calling.

Many of the calls I get lately are using my local exchange or shows the name of a nearby town.

I still don't answer.

I'm sure they think, if you see a somewhat familiar number, you will answer. I don't.

Every day, I get several already-blocked calls. And, every, I get several calls showing local numbers. There are also calls coming in just showing random locations around the country.

It's insanity.

Exactly. A live answer is exactly what they're looking for. And what shows up on Caller ID can be meaningless. That's nothing new. They try every trick they can come up with to get people to answer the phone. All authorities on the subject (law enforcement, etc) advise NOT to answer, and - in the case of inadvertently answering an unwanted call - to simply hang up.

Answering is a terrible idea for several reasons. Personally, I have no interest in playing games with them anyway. It's a waste of my time.
