Have you ever noticed?

DH and I are in news watching more (as usual) and we noticed that every national network plus large local affiliates (such as Phoenix and LA) only use women who fit a very stereotypical mood as weather women. They aren't skinny skinny, always look like their bustline is about 38, always wear sheaths, disappear when they turn 45 (max), etc. The weathermen do not fit a given mold (Al Roker). Can you say double standard?

Oh yes, I've noticed. Sex sells, lol. No more business attire. I can understand sleeveless but these little tight dress are unnecessary. And hardly any of them wear slacks.

The dresses are nice but they are almost always too tight.

And it's just not the weatherforcasters---did you ever watch ESPN? Good Lord--- most of them look like centerfolds or Hollywood starlets. I will admit there are a few who know their stuff--you can tell they're more passionate and better versed about sports than most of the other women. But between the short, tight dresses, long hair and plunging necklines---and lets not forget the 3" heels---no wonder alot of men --including my husband--watch those shows over and over. If I say anything to him about it he says------"Oh I'm just trying to get a score"--you know, from that ticker that goes across the bottom of the screen. Yeah, right.... But it does make me laugh the way he and others act sometimes.

And I almost forgot: those hair extensions! I can always tell where the natural hair ends and from there it's dead looking extensions (I will be so glad when that fashion fad is over.

My mother always said that a dress that was too tight was a sign it was cheap ... the better dresses always had more fabric in them. It makes me really uncomfortable to wear something that tight ... like I can't breathe or muffin top shows. Although I am thin, I still don't want to see the buttons pulling on a jacket or the skirt wrinkled because all the waistband and below pulls. I think those dresses look like they're made out of the same fabric bathing suits are made from ...

That is not the case in the Green Bay market. Only one tries to fit the stereotype described and she's not successful in pulling it off. We still value intelligent meteorologists up here so their looks aren't all that important. Also, we don't have pretty boy anchors either - they are almost all old men.

I dated a newscaster years ago, and he said the main reason the station heads hire attractive women is to assure that people (men) don't listen to a few minutes of the news and then flip to other stations with their trusty remote. They wait for the weather person .... and hopefully she really knows her stuff. lol

It's always about ratings .....
