WEGMAN'S FOOD STORE COMING SOUTH

I'm so excited about getting WEGMAN'S I could spit!!! The one in my town will be walking distance, but can't walk back with 4 bags of groceries.

I used to go to Wegman's in Northern VA with my daughter before she moved to WA last year. They have everything and more....especially prepared foods & catering available. A second floor cafe, as well? OMG.

It should be completed in 2 yrs. which is a long time to contain my excitement.

Oh, that's wonderful. I am originally from Niagara Falls Ny and really miss Wegmans. It is the best. Where in the South. I am in Georgia.

@Shanus .. you are so lucky!! I love Wegman's..but the closest one to me is about 45 minutes away (with no traffic). I wish they would open one in my neck of the woods.

A few years ago, a Wegman's opened about 20 minutes from me. It is true, they have everything... and more!

I go there about once a month to get a few select items. Their store brand vegetables, like green beans, peas and corn are better than the national brands. I buy them in bulk.

I also like their seafood, especially the scallops. They are always so fresh and delicious

It's a great store and I love going there, but their prices are higher than most of the other stores in my area.

I live in central NY and have shopped at Wegmans for years. I live in a college town so there is a big demand for fruits and vegetables needed for our international students cooking. Our town found out if there is a demand for a product Wegmans is willing to find out if it is a product that would work in other stores enough to make the product cost effective to carry.

I also like that their produce, whenever possible, is from farmers close to their stores. They usually place a picture with notation to show the local farmer and a Wegmans produce employee on the product. They have helped our local small farm businesses grow and we get daily deliveries. There is nothing better than corn on the cob for dinner that was picked that morning and fruit fresh from our orchards.

I am sure you will enjoy your store when you get it. Beware their marketing is great and many stores are high. While wandering down the isles you will quickly purchase more than you intended. Beware of the bakery and prepared foods. The smells will grab you in. Oh my!!!! Enjoy.

There are Wegmans all over western NY but they wont come into the eastern part. They skip right over us and go into Massachusetts. Rumor has it they have had an agreement with Price Chopper not to come here but they deny that. So strange.

@Carmie Yes, the prices are higher, but I think you pay for the variety. I doubt if I'll do my weekly shopping there, but for specialty items, it can't be beat. The bakery dept.? Their "W" bread...OMG.

In Rochester, NY, where Wegman's started, there is a store on every block! (So it seems!)

Happily, here in PA, there is a W close by!

I did a comparison shop a couple years ago. My DH, who is from Rochester, thought that Wegman's would have the higher prices, but it turned out, product for product, they were actually lower - about $15.

If I am unhappy about anything, it is that sometimes their produce can be better quality. But they often use local growers, so that is a good thing.

And just like anywhere, you have to check the dates on things.

Excellent customer service at Wegman's!

Gee, didn't realize I was so lucky - I have two of them - both about 2 miles from my driveway in opposite directions. There's a 3rd but farther away. Typically I don't much meat there, prefer a locally owned butcher/grocery store - - but love "W" for other things.

I think Wegman's stores are great.

There are 2 pretty close to me. One a few minutes south and one a few minutes north.

Additionally, there are a few others here in NJ that I have been to also.

@fthunt our town is too small for a butcher...have had 2 open & close in 6 months. So WEGMAN'S was a real shocker!

Wegman's is a great store to both shop and work. I live in central, coastal NJ and have a Wegman's about 10 minutes away. Love the produce, bakery, seafood, pre-made food for when you're in a hurry and no time to cook. There isn't a thing I don't love about this store!

My daughter works at Wegman's part time, and she says they (administration) are simply the 'best' to work for. They are always doing something nice for their employees. Sometimes, it's food prepared by their chefs and placed in the employee eating lounge for them to enjoy, other times it's something as simple as 'employee free drink' day where employees can pick any drinks they would like while working. Last week, they had drawings for their employees to win I-pads, Visa gift cards, etc. They are very flexible when you need time off as well. They give you two raises a year; one in May and November. It's not surprising Wegman's has been consistently rated one of the top companies to work for every year.

Yeah, I'm not buying that Price chopper thing. There are Wegmans and Price Choppers all over the Syracuse area. They skip over central NY and go to MA & NJ!! I will drive to the syr. area to shop at Wegmans, though. I love em!

I like Wegmans. There's one close to my sister in Central NJ. I used to live in California, no Wegman's there. It's all Trader Joes and Whole Foods. I now live in Georgia. It would be great if one came to my neighborhood. I can understand your excitement.
