I have a two family private house. I park on my driveway. Anyway the spot in front of my house is for one car, now some poeple have gotten it into their heads it's for two cars. I can't tell you how many times I have someone hanging over my driveway. Most times I don't know who the car belongs to as people from around the corner park on my block. I bought a sign that I put up "Please Do Not Block The Driveway Thank You". no one pays any attention to it. I have thought of buying safety cones, but I'm sure they would be moved or stolen. When I know I have to get out the next day I park in front of my house leaving my driveway empty (I want to add my mother is elderly and if I had an emergency I would be in trouble). Also my driveway is on top of my neighbor's driveway (whoever design the homes was an idiot), and she rings my bell Saturday morning. She came home about 2:00 in the morning, her foot slipped and she hit my car! She is 80ish and I don't think she should be driving anymore. She doesn't want to go through her insurance company as she had an accident not long ago. She said she'll pay for it, but I'm not sure once she realizes how much it could be, she'll want too. I haven't told my insurance company about the accident, I'm going for an estimate Wednesday, I hope it doesn't get ugly with her.

If the driveway is your private property have the cars towed. That's all I can think of.

I would think your local police dept would be the place to go to find out what your options are, since laws vary by jurisdiction.

Thanks to everyone for their advice. As far as the cars blocking my driveway I live in NYC and had to call 311 to complain. I was told they would forward the complaint to my local police department. I don't think anyone ever came, I caught the guy who blocked my driveway (he left soon after I called), all he said was sorry. How does someone not realize they're hanging into your driveway? The police will ticket the car, but that's it. I would have to call a towing company to get rid of the car. That is not in my nature. As for my neighbor, she really feels terrible about what she did. If she gives me a problem I will insist going through our insurance company. She doesn't want to as her insurance company recently paid her a lot of money and would probably drop her if she filed a claim.

This is more reason to alert your insurance company and file.

Her foot slipped and she did some damage to your car. Next time, it could be a child. If you fail to submit this to your insurance company, which will probably lead to the end of her driving, that accident would be on you. Do you really want to take that risk? Do the right thing and call your insurance company.

Oh bull... Whether @Jordan2 calls her insurance company or not, it is not her responsibility to ensure her neighbor is a safe driver... If the old woman goes out and wipes out again, it will not be 'on her'... She will not be the one behind the wheel of the car, her neighbor will be. It's up to the local DMV to ensure licensed drivers are capable of driving. That said, if it appears at all that you're going to need to, I wouldn't wait too long to report the accident. Your company will not be happy that you delayed.

Please go through your insurance company. The DMV may have your neighbor on a "watch" list. If she loses her license, then that is a good thing for everyone.
