Assumptions as Truth

Why is it that folks always have to have a dirty mind when they don't have a complete truth or grasp of the world?

I went to a talk where the speaker was in his late 80's. He had a female assistant in her mid to late 20's.

A gal that was at my table said "Well, we all know what that is about, she must get very well paid to give him s*xual pleasure". I was speechless. She didn't know the speaker or the young assistant at all.

I never thought anything of the sort - nor did the team come across as romantic lovers.

I know the woman who made the remark has never had a beau, boyfriend, lover, or ever been married. She's 58 and doesn't need to be thinking such things.

How is this one incident with one person equal to folks always? Seems you're jumping to conclusions and generalizing.

really......how is ANYONE but the woman herself to know these personal things?....and why would she broadcast any of that personal information anyways?

I never find myself thinking that other people "don't need to be" saying or thinking anything. I never find myself believing I have the ego needed to do that. People gonna say, think and do what they're gonna say, think and do. I either appreciate it or I don't, but I never feel I have some "right" to set them straight or tell them off. I find that tacky.

Unfortunately there are people who think the worst of situations. There isn't much you can do to stop it except give them a look of shock, disbelief or disgust with what they said and turn way from them. Or, if in the the situation you described you can look the person in the eye and tell them they can be sued for slander for making remarks like and should think before they speak. Hopefully that person will think before they make derogatory remarks again, but I doubt it.

And here I thought it was just me, "a dirty old man". I thought I had/have a "grasp of the world", but guess "folks always", and myself you see as presumptuous.

Also did not know 58 was the magic age I became this "dirty old man". =^..^=

I don’t like innuendo. A woman at work did that a lot. She was always implying things about other people that weren’t true. I learned to tune her out. Life is hard enough without people spreading false and malicious rumors. It serves no purpose other than to cause harm. It speaks volumes about talebearer.

What in the world! 58 is young and vibrant these days....the new 40. Any why shouldn't a 58 yr old think about "such things?" She isn't dead. That puritan thinking is so 1940.

Do you remember the scene in "Blind Side" when Sandra Bullock was having lunch with her friends and the one says something about the risk of having Sandra's daughter in the same home as her foster child Michael? Sandra shut her down by saying "shame on you", meaning shame for even thinking such a thing.

People who say such things are revealing something about themselves, not about others.
