Puppy Harley has been home a little over two weeks. She is adorable, smart and pretty laid back which is just what these older puppy parents hoped for. The older dogs are not too thrilled but they are working out their differences. I cant wait till she is fully vacinnated so I can take her to dog parks and day care to play with dogs her own age and energy level. I will be getting her into training classes soon also.

So far she only has had three to five potty accidents in the house. I attribute this to her intelligence and to our keeping her in sight EVERY MINUTE. That really helps! we have a leash attached at all times and she sticks with me any way. She goes to the door at the small cottage and is way easier here because she has so little room to run out of my sight indoors. Out doors I am always with her but I put her on a long tether so she will not run off since she is too young to be trained on the invisible fence. I am eager to get her trained since I have a large yard and I know she is dying to run but can't let her loose yet because I never know when she will get in the mood to take off. I walk her a few times a day and since she is so young that wears her out and satisfies her current playing needs. She is really wired first thing in the morning and last thing at night (the times I'M the MOST TIRED) and the puppy biting is annoying. She is getting better about it because I immediately stopped interacting if she bites me and I give her a toy. She is catching on! I think she finally knows her name too. She sleeps a large part of the day.... I need to take a nap then! Some nights she is up once, others not at all. The past couple nights I HAD TO PEE and woke her up! LOL

One question- I have not given her rawhide so far. I did give it to all my other dogs in the past but since I have read it is dangerous for dogs I have not yet with Harley. What is your opinion(s) on this? Shopping later and am thinking of getting some I have the real bones but those have to be chewed outside and are messy. Just thinking the rawhide would be so great if I could safely give it to her.

So far so good....she is exhausting at times mostly because with grown kids and older other pets, it is an adjustment having to watch her all the time. Of course I knew this was going to happen, but still changes your life. Thank God she sleeps alot and is SO GOOD! If I absolutely can't have my eye on her, I do use the crate but that is very litlle except for at night. She is soooo good about night sleeping and didn't even cry the very first time I put her in the crate to sleep. She is SO EASY GOING!!! Love, love love her and its only been TWO WEEKS!!

I'm so glad that Harley is such a delight! It sounds like it's working out great. Please don't give her rawhide. It's so dangerous. I gave it to one of my dogs briefly one time. She got it all soft, and I was scared to death she would swallow it and took it away from her. It was hard to get it away. I give my dog Nylabones and one Greenie every day for her teeth. I've given a Greenie a day to all of my dogs ever since they first came out. My Vet definitely recommends dentals when necessary, but never once recommended one for my last dog who lived almost 14 years. The plastic nylabones (not the ones with the powdery flavor on them) are not messy. My dog is chewing on one as I type. I think they help their teeth, too, and are safer than hard bones.

Rawhide, pig ears, cow whatevers are horrible for dogs.

My vet advised against any of that stuff years and years ago, back in the early 90's. I haven't given any of my dogs any of that stuff since then.

No rawhide for me, just google how it is made if you have any doubt.

Found a great product, it is called "no hide rawhide". It is hard to find in stores, but available from Amazon. Comes in 3 flavors. My dogs love them. Bully Sticks are another good option.
