Now I get it!

I have, in the past, read some of the posts on these boards, and thought to myself, "what is up with these people and their spelling, grammar, typos, etc". I mean I have stumbled upon quite a few that were so bad, I really couldn't make out what the person was trying to get across. Not just an error here and there, but a total mess of a post.

Then my computer broke. It was down for two weeks. I was attempting to keep up here, and post once in awhile using my phone, something I had never really done much of.

Geeze! What a nightmare. Tiny screen, even smaller letters, auto correct....all of it leading to my posts sometimes looking like I didn't speak English!

So now I get it! Some of those posts I've seen here, that are a jumbled mess are probably posted from phones that are made for people with toothpicks for fingers, and that has a mind of it's own to correct what it 'thinks' I want to say!

I've never been so happy to have a keyboard in front of me again! I'm back, and hopefully will be making more sense, and fewer mistakes!

I so agree. I have such a hard time typing on my phone. My daughter is so quick but no matter how long I have had it and how many times I try, it is just terrible. I have narrow fingers too so it isn't like I have huge banana hands that hit 2 or 3 keys at once. I gave up and almost exclusively use the voice texting now.

It isn't like I am new to texting either. I used to text all the time with my Motorola Razr (haha) and Blackberry. I forget the phone I had after that. I was so fast with those and never hit the wrong key.

I like all the things a smart phone offers but I miss my Razr so much!!

I hate to text anything from my phone! If alone, I use the speak to text option on my iphone. That's not always perfect, but if read before I post I can correct the errors.

@Mominohio LOL....yup I am guilty of some wierd posts myself...much thanks to spell check.I sent one to my son where I told him I was going through ladies itch...his response...huh mom?I was typing Ladysmith.

I agree with that. But on the other hand, it wouldn't hurt for people to proofread. We all make mistakes, I certainly do. But like @Mominohio said, some are just unreadable.

Yes, it's considerably more difficult to read and post by phone vs using a device with a mouse, and a larger screen and keyboard. However, I post my "jumbled mess" by phone all the time.

I always figured posts that are just thrown on the page with little regard to spelling, grammar etc appear that way because it suits the poster to do so. It never occurred to me to think the device was responsible.

Now that you mention it, I do run into trouble with the font size and type sometimes changing itself in the middle of a post. It won't let me correct it, either. I know if I had a mouse it would be swipe-click-click and the font would be restored. But I blame that on incompatibility issues.

I'm one of those people. Use my phone for everything. Don't own a computer. Thank you! For posting this. Do try correct errors when seen. What gets me! Rudeness from women unbelievable. Think wow really?! You need to get a out and enjoy life. Stop bullying!!!

I'm with you @Mominohio. I use my phone for practically nothing, and use it in the car? Out of the question. Nobody ever needs to worry about me texting and driving because it's not going to happen.

A lot of times when I type posts on my iPad I use my voice feature like I'm doing right now. I'm talking to my iPad and she is taking down every little word I'm saying. That way I don't have to sit my wine glass down to peck all of these little letters!! 😜😜😜 🍷 🍷 🍷

mominohio...you made a good point here. I tried to text recently, what a nightmare, don't know how people do it. Anyway, you gave me my laugh for the day, great thread.

This is exactly why I haven't bought a smartphone. I wouldn't want (and don't need) a computer on such a small device. It would only be a source of frustration and I wouldn't enjoy it, so I'd be paying for something that would be of no use to me. Texting is one thing.... and I rarely text. So far, I have not had a need for a computer outside of my home.

Or they are just bad writers. You'd be surprised what I see when I'm teaching high school.

It isn't about just proofreading!

Trying to go back and change the errors and not being able to stop the darn auto correct, not getting the cursor in the right spot, people 'pinging in' on the facebook messenger my kid set up on my phone (and will be made to get back out of there!!). It all adds up to either scrapping the post entirely out of frustration, or posting a hot mess sometimes (for me anyway).

All I'm saying is that now I get how some of the posts I read here just might be formed, and I have a little more understanding about it.

I've kind of 'walked a mile in their shoes' with this one, and now I see!

And I have to say, I don't like that mile walk or those shoes!!

Sometimes there is a lag between what you type, then what my phone re-types as "auto-correct" AC comes in handy most of the time, it's really not worth it to disable it.

Sometimes when I text my grown kids, I leave the errors, it's like playing "Mad Libs", the AC is pretty funny.

I have never sent a text on a phonein my life. I can barely see as it is and to type words that small on a tiny phone... forget it.

I post from my phone all the time. I like using my laptop better, but using my phone is okay.

You can turn off auto-correct or suggestions.

I don't know how people type very much using a phone. I know we all have our choices and that's good With my arthritis, my thumbs last about 10 seconds with anything like that.

I can dictate for texts and emails on my phone, so that's excellent. I don't know if I could dictate to do something like posting on a board. I'm kind of surprised at how well it works. It even gets proper names like local stores, street names, and such right, so I don't have to intervene.

But I still don't love that. I type, on a regular full-size keyboard, very fast so it takes me longer to even dictate. I really don't use the phone for internet much except a couple of times I needed to make a quick Amazon purchase and didn't want to crank up a computer, at night.
