These responses are interesting to me.

First of all, this never happened to me until recently. It came to my attention in the past month when I had multiple problems with Sleep Number sending new parts I had to order for my 11 year old bed.

In addition to their screw ups, they drove me crazy with emails about the fact that UPS had left some of my orders at the local access point because they could not deliver. First of all, I was at home to accept delivery. Second, I was still getting notices after Sleep Number straightened out their numerous errors and I had alrerady taken delivery of everything I needed.

I wondered about the craziness at the time and made a mental note to talk to my UPS guy next time I saw him. That was today and it was when I found out that this was something new. He did not clarify if this would happen with ALL packages. This is why I need to call UPS. I will call UPS to try to determine what is going on when I have an opportunity. If I find out more details I will call QVC President's Office and mention to them to see what may be done about choices for delivery.

Finally, I live in a Condo complex with security door in the lobby, so driver has to be buzzed in to leave a package for me. My mail carrier has a special key to gain entrance and leave mail, so US mail takes the stress from my life. I always sigh with relief when I see Q is sending me something via US mail if this is the UPS wave of the future.

I noticed another post here on another subject indicating someone who had multiple delivery choices on sunglasses. Perhaps that was being sent direct by the manufacturer and they provice choices. Do not see any choice on Q like in the past, except for ridiculously costly alternatives.

Thanks for comments.

I live in Chicago Illinois and have recently learned of new UPS handling of home delivery.

I spoke to a driver today who delivered a QVC package. Asked him about some notices I have seen regarding dropoff of packages at an access point which is a business a few blocks from where I live.

He basically told me that it makes more sense to dropoff my package at this local business if I do not accept delivery on first attempt. He was not clear on whether or not this applies to all deliveries because he said something about "potential" drop off on the package I just received. He was just not clear.

I told him that my health is not good, and one attempt would not be sufficient if I happen to be at a doctor visit on the day he attempts to deliver. If this was a heavy package, some of which I have had since I got wind of this new process, I would not be able to go to that business and carry my package home.

Frankly, I have many stressful health issues right now and am just not in the mood to call UPS just yet and get aggravated. There has been no mention on the news anywhere about this new policy. Besides all of this, we a paying for delivery which should at least require the 3 attempts always made in the past for a lot of reasons, before a dropoff anywhere in the delivery area.

Just curious if anyone else has heard of this new "so far not advertised" policy.

I was as shocked as you when Amazon did this. I was told the shipper can request this( to save $).

Upon further research I found it to be a UPS setting, by default, if I am remembering correctly, if you sign up for

automatic notifications.

Have talked with my regular UPS driver/his fill in when he is on vacation, and weekend deliveries from amazon. None of them has mentioned anything that ridiculous. Isn't a big business around us for miles, and nothing said here makes any kind of business sense. Sounds like f*k* news to me.

hckynut(john)

My DD was telling me about this just last week. I believe it has been happening for awhile now. She is young and does a lot of online shopping. Since she works and her building is difficult for UPS to enter, she has to go to the drop off or have some packages sent to me! I did not really get this until now!

Do you have to sign for every ups package you receive? If so, ask the driver for a pad of delivery notices, sign the back & tape to your door. They will leave pkg.

this isnt being done in our area as far as i know of.

we have a great UPS driver and he leaves items at our front door or in our garage if our garage is open.

i posted in customer care today about two items that i ordered earlier. they gave me the option of how i wanted my items delivered. i almost always prefer to have my items be delivered via UPS. they have the least amount of problems.

YES, I have experienced this twice now. Two times I had to go pick up my package after a first attempt to deliver.

UPS is making out like a bandit - being paid to deliver a package and people have to go pick it up after their first attempt to deliver. I have had nothing but issues with UPS and will pay extra to have something delivered by USPS.

This isn't a new policy in my area. There are numerous Access Points in every town and city. Access Points have been around for about two years here and Ups stopped making more than one visit around that time. They make one attempt to deliver and then they drop it off at the nearest Access Point. But you can go online and request that they drop off at Access Point before they even make the attempt to deliver. Some of my friends who work do that. Fedex also uses the Acess Points, it can be quite busy when you pick something up on Saturday. I live in a small suburban town but we have 4 Access Points now and that has eased the crunch. Around Christmas, when there were only two, the lines went out the door and up the street. Like I said this is definitely not new.

This is not new in my area ... but the first time my delivery man mentioned it, I told him that I pay for packages to be delivered to my home ... that I would not go to some remote access pick up point ... that UPS could just go fly a kite.

Never heard from them again about a remote pickup.

I have to say that of all the delivery companies, I love UPS. They put my packages inside my screen door so no one knows they are there. And if they see a package on my porch that was delivered by USPS, they put that package inside my screen door too. However, I noticed the last few times I got a package delivered, there was a form stuck on my door about trying to deliver, but no box was checked and the package was on my porch. So I don't know what's going on with that.
