Struggling with Tracphone - unknown calls, am I paying for these?

I bought the QVC Christmas Tracphone only for travel emergencies since we don't have good service at home. But I'm noticing a bunch of unsaved numbers of people I don't recognize, not all the same one. Is this common, am I paying for these? Two people have this number, DD and close friend. They call the house.

@depglassNobody has my Tracfone numbers and I still get those calls. I assume they're robo calls and I delete them without answering. Good question about the charge - I don't know that either.

I guess all phone companies recycle phone numers, and I used to get a lot of text from friends of this guy named Josh and I had to tell them, that Josh no longer had this number and the texts thankfully stopped.

I dont know what type of Tracfone you have but I have a Samsung Galaxy Prime and you can block the numbers:

Click the phone icon

In the right hand corner click MORE

Then click SETTINGS

Then click CALL REJECTION

Then click AUTO REJECT LIST

Then enter the phone number you want rejected

and on the keypad click DONE

you can hit the + sign to view the number you added to the reject list

Hopefully this helps and you get no more calls from these numbers. There are also call blocking apps available---some are free some charge a small fee...you can explore those too.

There is something beyond recycled phone numbers going on with tracphone recently. I've had the same number for at least seven or eight years and can count on one hand who has the number.

Over the years I would get the occasional unknown call or text but they were rare. Starting about two months ago I have been receiving four to six unknown calls a day.

I now turn on do not disturb with permission for specific numbers to ring through so I'm not bothered by ringing but that doesn't stop the calls from happening.

Lately, I am getting many unknown calls from my phones.

Also, lots of telemarketers.

I don't answer, unless I know the number.

If it is important, they can leave a voice-mail.

I have a Tracfone. I've been getting lots of spam calls lately too. I know they're spam because they leave a message claiming to be from the IRS, and if I don't call them they'll lock me up. Yeah, right.

I have changed my LG phone settings to reject any number not in my contacts list.

I can't help wondering if part of the price you pay with these cheaper phones is that they sell your number out and/or have no carrier protection against this sort of thing.

I get a call every now and then but they are few and far between. My carrier also blocks, the phone has the ability to block 'unknown' type numbers, or illegitimate numbers, on its own. I've had the same cell phone number since 1994, although with different carriers over the years but all mainstream carriers.

Just something that came to mind.

I don't answer phone numbers I don't recognize - you won't pay if you don't answer. I say if it is someone who needs to speak with me, they will leave a message then I have the option to call them back. I too have been getting a lot of out of area calls.

It's cell phones in general. I don't you mean but unsaved numbers, I assume you mean calls from callers that are not not known to you. Everyone I know has the same complaint and it's relatively new. Within the past few months, we're all getting marketing calls and people trying to sell us services on our cell phones. I never received such calls in the past but now I get 3 or 4 a day. I never answer my land line for just that reason. Now I have to be careful when I answer my cell phone. It's a aggravatiing. and I don't answer calls from unknown numbers. I block the number so they cannot call back. But I still get other calls. I don't have a Trac now. I assume by "charged" you mean are you using your minutes with these calls. No, since you didn't make those calls and just receiving them. Assuming you answer them.

Shouldn't we all find this rather suspicious/'fishy' that companies are allowing these very well known spammers/scammers? (Phone calls, etc.) Allegedly: Follow the money. (?). I'm only guessing, of course, right or wrong.

I am not a big phone user, I just need a phone for when I need a phone, so I have been with Tracfone for over ten years because it makes the best sense financially for my situation. I rarely give my number out. My phone has been under attack from robo calls and telemarketers for the past year and a half, at 9:00 a.m. the calls start, I average around 100 a day--hair transplants, boat insurance, student loans, none of which I have, want, or need, plus the usual IRS and you've won a vacation or sweepstakes scams. I never answer them anymore, asking them to put me on the Do Not Call list never did any good so I stopped wasting my minutes, and keep the volume turned off now. I wish Tracfone had a blocking feature. Now I have to remember to turn the volume back on when I go out in case my elderly father calls or on those rare occasions when I really am expecting a call. To answer your question, they only cost you minutes if you answer them.
