Four Pennies

I can remember when my mother taught me about money and shopping, she said to always have four pennies. so that you didn't get pennies back in change. Now that I have children of my own, when I send them in the store to pick up somethig I give them four pennies too. My daughter asked me why and I told her what my mom told me "So that you don't get pennies back in your change." She was puzzled for a minute but then figured it out. Does anyone else do that? I know with me it is rare because I usually use a card instead of cash.

If you avoid getting pennies back don't you eventually run out of pennies?

I limit the change I carry to 3 quarters, 2 dimes, 1 nickel and four pennies so I can give exact change if I want/need to.

It would nice to run out of pennies, but I doubt if it will ever happen.

I don't mind getting pennies back as I throw them in a jar and wrap them. Most stores now have penny containers to be used for anyone needing a penny or so to have the exact change and I also often just leave them threre to help someone out.

Here's my two sense (or cents 😜): My wallet has become so heavy, I carry no change. If by chance, I get some back paying cash, I have a large glass jar on my dresser on my bedroom shelf where I dump it each night. DH caught on and does the same.

I Cary charge cards, Sam's card, license, food stores' discount cards, lists of meds for me, hubby and my mom in emergency, all my insurance/Medicare cards and info...I can barely snap my wallet closed.

@Marp. I do the same except I put the quarters in old pill bottles in my console. The 2 bottles are the same diameter and each hold $8. I use the quarters for car washes, parking meters and washing my large comforters and throw rugs at a laundry mat. If I keep those bottles full I am prepared for everything even a pay phone if I have no cell service. Occasionally there is no service when traveling in the mountains and deep valleys.

I find it useful to have one penny, but if I do get some pennies accumulating in my wallet, no problem. I make an effort to spend them.

I don't keep any change in my purse. All change goes into a jar and I cash it in once a year to use as Xmas shopping money.

I'll admit I am lazy. I use Coinstar and I figure the pennies pay the cost of it

I always have change in my wallet. Every so often, I will go through and throw it in the change jar. My husband puts his change in the jar every day. I cash it in at the bank. It really adds up.

I have a couple of Ball Jars in my kitchen that I use to empty out my wallet every, or every other, day. When they get full, I'll take them to my bank where they use their automatic counter and then its deposited into savings. No biggie!

I'm an impatient person I know but it really bugs me when people are in line paying by change and looking through their boat load of change because they know they have one more penny in their coin purse. I've stood and watched them push the money around with their finger, shake it and even dump it on the counter just to find that one penny (or nickle, etc.). That absolutely drives me nuts!!!!

I fill pill bottles with quarters too!

The bottles I have will hold $10, and sometimes I have 8 or 10 of them saved up.

I use them for the car wash in the winter time (summer I do my own car in the driveway!), when I have to occasionally go to the laundromat, or sometimes I just run short of cash, and take them to the bank when I need a little extra money.

my kids and i save our change in containers so we like getting change.

we then pool all of our coins and

then go to a coinstar machine (usually three times a year) when there are a lot and split the haul four ways evenly.

I put my change in containers: 1 for nickels & pennies, 1 for dimes, and 1 for quarters. Usually I take them to the bank just before our summer vacation and before Christmas and put them thru the coin sorter. When I get ready to cash them in, my husband says what a good idea but he doesn't contribute so I use the $$$ for myself.

Pennies! You can't buy anything with them, and you can't buy anything without them! ha ha
