Wow. I am completely blown away about the return policy at H&M, especially when their merchandise is junk. Monday night this week, I bought my DD a lightweight cardy there. She decided to wear it that evening as the mall was chilly. She wore it for maybe 2 hours that night. Last night (Thursday, 72 hours after the purchase) she went to put it on, and I noticed two holes in the back, near the hem. It had not been laundered, it was just coming apart. So today I went to return it. Against my better judgment, I looked for a replacement as my DD really liked the sweater, but they no longer had her size. I took it up to the register & let them know it had holes in it so they wouldn't put it out on the floor. I casually remarked that she only wore it once, and the sales girl immediately said I couldn't return it if it had been worn. But it is only 4 days old! What? The manager was standing at the next register and told her he would handle it, so I thought he would. He went on to explain to me that they stand behind their merchandise, so he could give me an in house credit, but since she wore it & he had no way of knowing what she did to it--here I interrupted: She wore it. That's what she did!--

"Surely I understood," says he.

No, I don't understand. Worn or not, it should last longer than 3 days. She didn't play hockey in the thing. She wore it around the mall, for heavens sake! I ask if he had any more in the back, but no, they did not. Honestly, I did not really want anything else from that store. I have worked in retail before & I shop plenty, and I appalled that they wouldn't give me my money back under the circumstances. I had the receipt. I had the defective, four-day-old sweater. I ended up buying another sweater, but first chance I get, I am taking it back to another location to get my money back. I won't shop there again.

So now you know. Proceed with caution.
