Since I just read the survey hoax thread, I thought I would mention this one. DH loves Craigs List. Recently he was interested in a piece of lawn equipment and replied through the secure Craigs List link. That guy requested an email address so he could send photos. I told DH I was very leery of this, but he is like a little kid and insisted. Of course the guy never replied and since then I have been getting spammed with obscene emails, dating sites with foul language, etc. Google very nicely puts these in Trash and I never open them. I think what is going on is these jerks sell email lists to these various shady sites.

He and my husband occasionally post on FB.

Cody (see my avatar) is the best of all the dogs we've ever had.

Just a note of interest: ISIS is now encouraging their fighters to advertise on Sales sites, Craiglist and eBay included. They are advertising items that need to be seen in person, cash paid, etc. They then "capture" the innocent people coming out and murder them. There is even instructions on how to do this, setting up cages, how to dispose of bodies, etc. This aspect is new (even tho crazies have been involved on occasion) and although I'm sure rare, something to at least have in the back of your mind....

Awful, I know....

Unfortunately Craigs List is a hotbed of criminal activity. Between the scams of duping people out of money to the people who are killed when they meet up with the person, it is just a horrible site. If you do purschase something on CL there's a 99% chance it's stolen. Of course there are legitimate sellers and buyers on CL, but you are really taking your chances when you deal with someone on there.

Best advice that I can give is, if one is going to buy or sell something from Craigslist, do the transaction at the local police department, and meet in broad daylight, and not after dark.

I know someone whose son was looking for a car on Craigs List. He met the sellers in a parking lot and went to drive the car with them. They killed him. I would never do any type of transaction on Craigs List.

I've been using Craigslist for 14 yrs - finding roomies. Some for me and many for friends. I've never got taken advantage of. I ask lots of questions, ie, their full names, city/state, age, type of work they do and for which company, and their telephone number. Then I go to sites like Intelius.com, Peoplefinder.com and then I just google their name. Ages and their addresses always show up on a few sites - especially when they have a common name. When I feel comfortable, I'll call them on the phone - to be sure it's their real telephone #. Scammers would give up at the beginning.

If ur buying/selling an item ------- only work with people who are local.
