How are your bing cherries this year?

I just bought a bag and they are smaller and not as sweet as the ones I got last year. Maybe because it still early in the season. How are your cherries?

Way too early here. Our next door neighbor has a huge cherry tree in the front yard, right by the fence. He doesn't really do anything with them and has always welcomed us to take however much we want.

That tree makes the best cherries EVER, but it doesn't get fruit every year. I don't know much (anything!) about growing stuff, so there is probably a simple reason of which I'm unaware. But when there are cherries, there are zillions.

I keep wishing I could, somehow, tell the birdies - hey, why don't you guys get all of yours from the very top, where we can't reach so we can have the lower ones. They're not going for it. Good thing I love them.

Here in upper MI cherries are a huge commodity. Just drove by the groves and they are all in full bloom with flowers! We won't see cherries until July!

The ones I just bought are from California. I live in Colorado and the cherries here don't get sold until June at the earliest. Colorado grows both Bing and Rainier. I can't wait!

Bing cherries come out later.

I thought they were the Bing cherries, but I guess I was wrong. Thanks @hopi

I got bing cherries at the grocery the other day and they had no flavor at all, Not sure where they were from, but I'm not happy about the quality for the cost.

They were on sale for $2.99 a pound. I didn't buy them as they weren't dark in color but we're light colored like they were sour.

It seems a little early for cherries. Being from Michigan, our cherries should be sometime in July. It is only right because we are the home to National Cherry Festival in my favorite city of Traverse City.

I'm here in Northern California. I bought red cherries from a roadside stand and they are delicious. I just made Julia Child's Cherry Clafouti and it is outstanding, I ate too much of it, guess it was my dinner😯

@SilleeMee I bought a bag last week that I am just now finishing up, and they are exactly as you described. Boy, I don't like 'em this small. But today I was at the grocery store (big chain in my state) and they had them on sale for the same price as the ones at the first store - $2.99/lb which is cheap for this early in the season, and they are delicious. Plump, big and juicy, deep burgundy in color and just like the ones at peak season. Can't wait to finish the last of this first bag up and dive into those delicious ones!

Editing to say - I don't know where either batch of cherries came from - i didn't even think to look and see.

Oh yeah! That's what makes a great cherry - decent size, and that deep, deep red color.

Wish I could find a good watermelon. About ready to quit buying the ^^^^ things altogether. Either to ripe or so green they give you cramps.

I will always remember when Lindsay's mother was a young child and we went cherry picking when living in California. We picked and picked and after arriving home I didn't know what I was going to do with all those cherries. The best that came to mind was to put a lot of them in the freezer and lo and behold I found that frozen cherries were the perfect snack in the summer.

I bought some today, they were big and delicious. Also the nectarines, peaches and apricots are great.
