Baby Shower Invite

WTH is a Diaper Raffle?

Baby showers have changed, the last few I have been to were lavish affairs catered with professional photographers!!

But I have never heard of a Diaper Raffle......????

The attendee brings a package of diapers for the mother and is given a ticket stub in return. The mother-to-be draws the winning ticket for a prize.

They should let you know the raffle prize in advance. Then, if you don't want to participate, you don't need to bring diapers? Maybe not, that would be rude. Perhaps, diapers takes place of a gift.

Baby showers, like weddings, are bigger and grander and more expensive than they ever were. I don't know what a diaper raffle is. I gave a joint shower for my girls last summer and there were two raffles. A set of pink pearl jewelry and a set of blue pearl jewelry because one was having a boy, the other a girl. Fresh water pearls from JTV, lovely but not terribly expensive. Both girls were registered which what they all do now. That shower was bigger grander than my wedding reception was. I held the line at co-ed and alcoholic drinks. Although I have been to co-ed baby showers that were in the evening had had bar service. I just couldn't go that far. We're now beginning to see Reveal parties which I never even heard of until last summer. I never knew such a thing existed but I'm expecting an invitation from a dear friend's daughter to one soon. Sweet girl, she's friends with my girls but I won't go if a gift is required. We gave a wedding shower gift and wedding gift 2 years ago and there will be a baby shower gift and after that a christening gift. Gotta draw the line somewhere....

They are making them like a wedding event. Catered food etc., 100 + guests. ridiculous IMO.

Wow...I wouldn't have guessed that. Are the diapers in place of or in addition to the shower gift?

I would assume the diaper raffle takes the place of the gift.

This is a nice way to avoid getting lots of "stuff" new parents do not need and get diapers they can use.

Yes, my cousin had this at her shower ... I brought a lovely gift from her "wish list" .... did not participate in the Diaper Raffle (where I could be the lucky recipient of a prize myself if my name was drawn, oh boy) .... I could barely carry my main gift, no room in my arms for another~! Sheez~!

No it's NOT IN PLACE OF .... it's an added bonus the mother-to-be gets from you and your pocketbook.

The mom- to-be gets tons of gifts, plus $100 a dollars in diapers, and the winner of the raffle gets a trinket from the dollar store. I haven't been to one that wants you to bring diapers also. I bet it's the supersize box.

This particular mom-to-be had a small family gathering to announce the pregnancy - filled the cake with pink and blue filling.

Then 2-3 weeks later had the same people for the gender reveal.

I'm going to pass on the raffle because I know it's going to be some sort of body lotion or soaps.

I bring/give the same gift to every mom-to-be:

*A HUGE box of diapers from Costco

*A bulk size box of unscented wipes from Costco

*A GC to a local salon for a pedicure

Something for baby, something for mama. Done. If someone has hated this, I've yet to hear either directly or in-directly.

Even though it was stated on the shower invite, I don't recall anyone getting a raffle ticket for the diaper raffle and no drawing took place. When we walked in the door, we were told to put the gifts in a certain room and no one asked if we had brought diapers.

Glad I didn't buy diapers, too.

Also, they didn't even open the gifts at the party. wth...I thought that was the point of having a shower. And to top it all off, the shower was so boring...too bad she didn't have the decency to open her gifts in front of her guests...especially since we all were just sitting there doing nothing.

This baby shower didn't have a "baby shower cake" or cupcakes. No decorations, baby shower plates, cups, etc. either. How odd.

It seemed more like a gift grab.

All the baby showers I have been to opened the gifts in front of the guests. Same with birthday parties and bridal showers. I think it's rude if you don't. If you have 100 guests, than make the shower longer.

I think that goes beyone tacky. They didn't even try to disguise their greed. It would have been more honest to send out a shower in the form of a bill, enclose a self stamped envelope and tell people to send in some money....lol

A note on the bottom of the wedding shower invite - be a dear and wrap in clear. I spent over 70 hours cross stitching a wedding sampler for them and not wanting to be different, took a picture and attached it to the package - she didn't even pass the picture around. I was kind of hurt.

The baby invite says the same thing - I am making a quilt, so lots of hours involved and this time around I AM NOT wrapping it in clear or attaching a photo.....

new Mother getting a " push present" ... a gift for pushing the

baby out ....
