After Several Years, Finally Promoted at Work

I'll keep this brief, but I want to thank those of you who gave me positive words of encouragement and advice throughout the last year. My hard work was finally recognized and I couldn't be happier. It all coincided with the departure of one of my superiors who had such a negative influence on my career; he constantly overlooked me for openings. I hope and pray to never have to encounter someone like that in the future. I don't want to be negative but I also want to address some of you who had such harsh words during my difficult job search. You cannot pretend to know every single detail of one person's life especially someone on a forum and then go on to constantly berate and belittle them. I'll be vulnerable now and admit that it felt so awful. Looking back, I have to say that I'm so happy to have been the one being unfairly criticized than then one being the perpetrator. I can confidently say that I don't knock people when they're down. And I'm really not down; my job is in one of the World Financial Buildings. Again, thank you all who were so sweet and kind to me!

Congratulations, I hope the superior who made things difficult didn't let the door hit him in the arsh. All it takes is one insecure person in management to make it rough. After decades in the same company, I can tell you they eventually get their due.

@JBKO Way to go...you just had to believe in yourself and work hard to achieve what you wanted.I am pleased that you never let the negative ones have any effect on your goals.i feel that sometimes a few negatives help though to fire me up and make me more determined.

Criticism made you stronger ,you did not give up. We are not perfect we all have faults,you recognize or acknowledge those faults and go from there. Congrats no your promotion and move forward do not let others you made disagree spoil your achievements Believe or not that Superior who's has left,and those who have criticise you are the reason for your promotion. Why so much of the negativity? Congratulations on the probation and even bigger congrats for being rid of that awful boss you had. Enjoy and feel happy and relish the moment. There really is no need to relive all that old garbage that over and done with.

I don't know you or know anything about your job search but congratulations on getting a promotion. If you have any lingering resentment due to your former boss, be sure to leave it at home every day. You don't want to take any lingering negativity to the office!

It's nice to read you were given a promotion. I remember another post of yours about your job and how much you disliked it. I thought you said you worked at a famous NYC museum. I remembered your post because I love the museum. Did you switch jobs?

I remember that op was overlooked, and only males were promoted? Maybe I am wrong.
