CNN Contributor Discloses Deadly Condition

I just came across the article "I'm Supposed to be Dead Today" in The Resurgent, in which CNN contributor Erick Erickson writes about the massive blood clotting that occured months ago in his lungs, causing permanent, life-threatening damage.

In recent times I've watched CNN less and less, so it wasn't clear to me that his appearances had dwindled. Apparently his condition is such that each time he has to rush to the hospital, medical staff are incredulous that he is alive. One doctor looking at the dire-appearing scan at the entrance to his room said "When is this body being moved to the morgue?", only to be informed by a ruefully laughing Erickson that he was alive.

After one hospital stay, he also received the news that his wife has been diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer...

Despite all this, he sounds like he has his priorities in order, and has prepared for what comes. It' isn't clear to me if his condition will lead to death soon, or if he has a chance of survival. His account is very moving and admirable. I'm going to be praying for him and his wife.

Just thought those who have seen him on the news might like to know what has befallen him.

If his being alive is the medical mystery the ER doctors say it is, I would hope that the cream of the crop in the U.S. has been called to study it and find out why so that others can be helped and to prolong his life even further.

My husband's rheumatologist, a man from India on a vegetarian diet, just had a heart attack.

There are other factors in heart attack besides the diet. Having worked in CCU a lot, a good diet is always beneficial, but doesn't always prevent heart attack.

I'm not familiar with this kind of pulmonary problem that Erickson has. I wonder why the massive clotting would initially present as a stroke, which is what they first treated him for. And Is the swelling of the chest cavity a sign that the clots are "massing" again? It sounds like an awful thing to contend with...

Remember, too, there are risk factors for heart attack we CANNOT control. My uncle had his first heart attack at age 38, and it was massive. He had 2 more, and died at age 44. He had two of the uncontrollable factors.

Age - the older you are, the higher your risk

Gender - males have a higher risk, until after menopause, at which time women's risk begins to approach men's.

Family History - a strong factor in heart disease. You cannot control your genes!

My grandfather, father of my uncle, died at 59 of a heart attack. My other uncle, his brother, had a heart attack as well, but at a later age and is still living. He was very careful with his diet. Not a vegetarian, but very careful.

Vegetarian? That's not plant-based.

Traditional Indian diets are filled with ghee, yogurt...lots & lots of dairy & eggs. Sanjay Gupta saved a lot of lives by doing this documentary about plant-based diet for heart health. It IS all about the food.

Low fat whole foods plant based to be exact.

Hello @Oznell.......

I know of Erick Erickson from CNN but new nothing of his health issues, nor anything about the diagnosis of his wife's hospital stay having any type of illness. I have not watched CNN for almost 1 year, now.

I knew of several CNN's employees but not that familair with their private lives, other than when Tony Snow has divulged his terminal illness.

Hw very thoughful to have brought his or anyone's illness to each of us for prayers and hope. How VERY cosiderate and sweet.

Having a massive blood clotting occurring months ago was a Never Heard of Situation to us.

Many patients do have unbelievable - almost 'near' to death - histories and still are here to speak about it.

I will remember him and his wife in my prayer group. Thank you for bringing us (me) the news.

Sending you a special prayer for that precious little son of yours, as he recovers to FANTASTIC. One of the BEST of nursing care GIVERS was MAMA.

A Huge Hug with such appreciation. .

I am convinced that Mr. Erickson is and has been on the most of any break through medications, the most recent developed, latest, the tautest /best blood thinners and is monitored (maybe) daily, if not weekly. MRIs.

The traveling mass of clots would have to BREAK loose. 'A' clot can be causing a thrombus ( not moving) to an embolism....* (traveling) >> to the brain from any area / {being loose} from the lungs.

Why? He is still alive?

I would come to believe he has the best of all [OF] any Medical care'

Once a thrombus breaks from the wall(s), then travels, there is where the death potential lies. Usually a general description when a stroke does happen. Also, not every stroke is as severe as another..as in TIAs.

I have seen some incredible MIRACLES, though.

It's still a choice.

You might read her blog. Her diet recommendations are quite different from yours.

I agree, I have a relative who has managed to stop reoccuring cancer by using diet. It's amazing. By the way, if you're on facebook check out Chris beat cancer. Young Memphis man who stopped colon cancer with diet changes. His site has numerous people with all types who cured cancer some stage 4 without conventional medicine.
