Help ladies, shipping our car

I will have to have my car shipped back north from Florida. Believe it or not, my hubby drove down to Florida but has become very ill. We never expected this to happen.

So my question is I need info on shopping our car back north. What company is reputable? Any info is greatly appreciated.

This was years ago but a neighbor shipped her car from NJ to California. She used a "moving" company. The car's gas had to be near empty prior to shipment.

I remember watching from my front door, the car being loaded onto this huge van.

There are also companies that have "professional drivers." For a fee, they will drive "your" car anywhere you want to go. If you have a phone book (white & yellow pages), their services are listed.

My neighbors moved from the East Coast to the West Coast and their Cadillac and Jeep both were in the moving van.

There are many car transporters you can use. I would start with a dealership that sells your make of car. See if they can hook you up with a transporter. Be sure to check out the business and use the BBB. Good luck and I hope your husband recovers very soon.

Google a company called 'Auto Driveaway'. They arrange for non-commercial vehicles to be driven to other states, as you need. They've been in business a long time. Friends hired them decades ago and I hear their name pop up now and then by people in your situation.

Just a thought - Would there be a family member or friend who might be willing to drive it back if you paid for their airfare to Florida and a hotel room/food on the way home up north?

Believe it or not - Fedex - we shipped a car a few years back and it was easy peasy.

Wow did not know FedEx ships cars. That must have been expensive.

i would like to respond if i may. years ago we moved east to west coast. i can't remember what dh did, but my car was shipped in a national moving company.

i have no idea what it cost. his company paid for everything.

my opinion here is that you go with a national company and not try second guessing anyone else. of course, i don't know your finances. i definitely would look into it though.

A friend of mine ships hers on a train and also rides the train to and from Florida every year.

@Ditzydori Sorry to hear that your husband is ill. Do you have a small local paper there like we have here? Lots of college young men would love the chance to make the money and have the short vacation. You might even call a school.

Your starting point is Florida, but where in the "north" is the destination? The distance ( specifically mileage) makes a big difference as to the options

One of my friend's huband has several clients that he drives their cars to Florida and back to the Cape every year. His airfare is payed for by his clients.

After much online research and asking our mechanic and friends we discovered Reliable Carriers, Inc. 1-800-833-7411. They transport show cars and are known to be a reputable company and highly rated with the Better Business Bureau. We will use them to ship a car to the opposite coast unless we decide to drive it ourselves. There are too many horror stories when you read about other companies where you don't know who will be handling your car. Others on the board have pointed out other options from Florida. I hope this info helps.

A moving van wouldn't work, since we aren't moving.
