I was going by the picture of the groceries bought and how much was spent.

Seems the lower income level familes pictured didn't bother to buy *junk*, just the necessities (whole food).

I wonder if these people also had fast food places and ordered cheap hamburgers, would they wash it down with a fountain soda or a bottle of water? Water I can only hope.

Peter Menzel also published a book called "Material World" which documents what people own. Very eye-opening. We live in a constant barrage of "buy this"--especially from the hosts /vendors on shopping channels! Do we really need all the things we buy?

When I was teaching my elementary classes, we used both of these books. Kids were amazed at how little "stuff" many cultures have. And yet they seem amazingly happy!

I eat plant based although my husband and extended family eat meat and dairy--and desserts.

But one thing for sure in designing a new kitchen, I realize I do not need the cabinet and pantry space that most people seem to need for storing packaged food.

I could probably fit everything in one cabinet.

Of course, I'm going to take advantage of having it for resaleablity, so now I'll be able to have *inside* dinnerware and *outside* dinnerware (yes, gonna be matchy-matchy with the new deck).

The topic on another thread was how long can you go w/o spending money. It's not how long I can go, it's the fact that I shop almost daily for fresh vegetables. I rarely even buy frozen ones.

The meat eaters in this house get a TON of veggies and enjoy them.

The pic of the NC family is sad. I hope it's a wakeup call to them being a part of this *project*. I really do.

"Interesting to see the correlation between type of food &

the lean appearance (or natural squatting position)

of the respected family & country."

I think the correlation of appearances is also closely connected with the age of the people, particularly the postmenopausal women in each country.

@lolakimono I have seen these images before and find them fascinating. Thank you for taking the time and effort to share them here.
