Wall plates, etc.

Do any of you have collector plates decorating your walls or hutches?

I have these decorating 3 rooms ~

6 plates with old fashioned winter scenes (3 are a set)

2 Disney theme plates

2 plates with flowers

4 season plates

1 with a southwestern theme

1 with a spring scene

1 Princess Di plate

3 Noel type plates

Wow , that is a lot of wall plates. I have aset of 4 in the camper that I think are pretty but I especially like that they don't need as much space to hang as a framed picture. They are all the same artist and are pictures of kids doing everyday things - playing with a puppy - playing in a puddle - picking a pumpkin and kissing a doll.

I had to look mine up because I could not remember the artist - it is Donald Zolan.

I have 4, all were gifts from my Mom

2 are Edna Hibel paintings and the other 2 are Mildred Seely collectible dolls.

I collect plates with prints from R. K. Beck. When I started collecting them, I just liked their pictures. I got them for a dollar or two at local thrift shops. They have themes like nature (see chestnut plate below) fish, dogs, deer, sheep, even cows.

I later found out that he painted plates given out by the Larkin Soap Company. I worked in an office in the old Larkin warehouse and they had artifacts on every floor, including plates like mine.

Later I discovered that Rafael Beck also painted murals for theaters and for the Pan Am Exposition in Buffalo in 1901.

I like to hang plates in bathrooms and kitchens - where moisture can ruin pictures.

Oh man, this is a sore subject in our family. Currently, 133 collector plates are boxed up and in the garage as I attempt to find ways to get rid of them. My mother loved all the blue and white plates (Bing & Grondahl, etc.) for Christmas and Mother's Day through the years (60s and 70s). Can't find anyone interested in them -- even the Scandinavian store in our area didn't want them. They had a bunch on their store walls for sale and couldn't move them out. We lived in the Midwest when Mom collected, so I'm going to explore ways to get rid of them there. No one in Texas is interested, that's for sure.

When I downsized years ago, I let go of four cat plates by Laurel Burch.

I'm not a fan of plates on walls. I do have several sets of china I like to change out from time to time.

I bought two Franklin Mint plates back 30 years ago. They are pictures of birds. I was collecting things that had to do with birds back then. Now the plates just sit and collect dust....I dusted them off to take this picture! 😉

I have one of his plates too. My MIL had several. I found it at a flea market. Not even sure if they are worth anything anymore, but I just like it.

They actually sell for good money on EBay.

I went to a yard sale a few years ago and bought several hummel plates as well as some blue and white plates from Norway. Some had Christmas 1982 on them which was cool bevause that is when my Son was born. When I got them home I did some research on the internet and discovered they were around three hundred dollars a peice. I bought 12 of them at the yard sale for 10 dollars

Of all the things I moved from my parents home last year, belonging to both my parents and two sets of grandparents, in order to sell their home, I am thankful that collectible plates weren't part of the mix.

The consignment store by us that sells really nice things won't accept anything like that because they said collectible things don't sell. That's a shame. They also wouldn't take my mother's china because it was primarily pink and they said pink china doesn't sell. Go figure.

If it were me and I didn't want the plates I'd load my car as quickly as I could and I would drive like a bat outta you know where to the closest Goodwill. I wouldn't even put the car in park. I'd pop the back open, let the employees take them out and the squeal of tires you'd hear would be me leaving the parking lot. Problem solved in less than one minute.

I copied this picture from Ebay website. I had one that was given to me by a patient at the hospital where I worked. I never hung it up, and I gave it away when I was packing things up to move this past August. It was still in the box. Goebel...

We have a wall of plates. It looks....interesting. Dh and his family think it's great (they have plates along the boarders of their walls). I just do my best to ignore them.

I have different types of art on a wall in my kitchen and that includes a couple of vintage cats in the kitchen plates......

Yes, I have one that was passed down to me from my Japanese mother. The piece is a very shallow thrown stoneware bowl used for ancient, traditional flower arrangements (ikebana). It's so shallow that it looks like a plate and I have it placed on a wall. It's hundreds of years old.

Collector plates just aren't my thing.

I had a few Avon Christmas ones back in the 80's with really old fashioned Christmas scenes, but I rarely put them out, so I donated them.

I think one or two in just the right place on a stand can be pretty, but I really don't like ones with the year on them, or big sets of them hung on walls.
