Elderly Drivers in Japan

I heard on the news that they are encouraging people over 75 to surrender their driver's license. There are approximately 4.8 million drivers over 75. If they do, they will get a discount on their funeral. Good promotion!!!

There are more people between 16 an 45 who for safety's sake should surrender their driving privilege's.

It sounds more like something from The Onion, but sure enough, it's true. It seems they've had a recent uptick in accidents involving elderly people confusing the gas and the brake pedals.

I was thinking the same thing ..... FREE public transportation for life seems more practical .... and a much better enticement.

Incredible! So if it was me, at 75, they'd say, let's get you off the road, you're a danger out there. But, sidebar, your prize will be money off on your funeral! Woopie do. Boy is that ever something to look forward to. They leave out, how do you get around if you are in it alone? What about those people? They have to fend for themselves at that stage of their lives. I think not. It's the only independence some of them have. How old are the people that thought that beauty up?

America is burying the lead.

The story is not surrendering licenses,

it's the fact it's a funeral tie-in.

Japan has been offering surrendering license

discounts on many different things for many years.

In Japanese culture death is as important as life is, hence, the offer to 'upgrade' a funeral.

I think the idea of free transport in exchange for surrender of diver's license is the best deal. CT had my mother surrender her license and she sometimes struggles for rides to her doctor.

I live very far away from her.
