Similar tastes?

Do you have the same taste in decor and fashion as your Mother? I do with both. I also take after her with my "need" to have a spotless home. I am a fanatic with keeping the house clean and this would also include keeping the yard neat and the cars washed.

Yes. Decor = Neutral colors, Fashion = Basics in Neutral colors.

Absolutely not. We've never liked the same style in fashion or decorating.

not at all, my Mother was a very elegant lady,in her clothes and home decor,me,jeans and a tee shirt, my home is very shabby chic and french country lol

Not at all. My mother liked much brighter colors and patterns in decor. She didn't really have a fashion style, but when she needed to purchase an outfit for a special occasion, she did tend to select brighter colors and patterns.

From seeing old photos of her from the 40s, her style and colors were more conservative. I am assuming that during that time period clothing selection may have been limited and one had to stretch their dollars so they opted for neutrals.

Me, I am conservative. Classic style and neutrals all the way. An occasional pop of color in accessories.

Fashions not so much. Home decor, sort of. I need to see a room completely put together but she can pick out pieces that would go together well. Jewelry, ehhh. She likes necklaces and earrings sets and won't buy one without the other. I can use a single necklace and use a differnt pair of earrings and it works with the outfit. Handbags--she likes suitcases and I like medium sized bags.

We had similar tastes, however my mom had a better eye for what would look good together. We would disagree and when all was said and done I had to admit she was right, which killed me, LOL.

No. Growing up, we truly lived in our house, but my mother was also a clean fanatic. After I married and had my own home, I realized she did it because she was very proud of her brand new home and wanted it be a nice place for her family---and it was.

I also saw that my maternal grandmother had an extremely "relaxed" attitude about housework, and knew that had a huge influence on mom.

I was a clean fanatic the first few years in this brand new house, but realized I was feeding my OCD tendencies, and lowered my expectations. My home is clean but I am not obsessed with cleaning it.

Clothing - very different.

Decor - somewhat different. I have my own sense of style, and she had hers.

First to answer your question, I suppose Mom and I do / did share taste. She had traditional taste, as do I; however, I lean towards "less is more," while she liked decorative pieces on every tabletop.

Reading the bolded words above is what actually prompted me to reply to this because it reminded me of a couple I knew many years ago. They were terrifically nice people, and their home could have come straight out of House Beautiful. Everything, down to the last detail, was the highest quality available. Janet had a passion for, and could afford, "the best."

One time she wanted to show me her $200 kitchen "garbage can" (a tall, lidded Longaberger basket, probably better suited for a laundry hamper). Anyway, to show it off, she pulled open bifold doors with certain aplomb; and, if you will believe it, a spotlight came on directly above the basket. So help me, to this day, I still think I might have heard angels sing.

Her husband was so 'tidy,' they liked to tell a story on him about his car. When the mechanic raised the hood of his car, he called out to his crew, "Hey, Guys, come here! You've gotta see this." This gentleman's engine was steam cleaned and every part labeled.

Some folks know how to live well. Janet and Tom had it figured out. In spite of what could be viewed as 'uptight' to outsiders, they were perfectly suited to one another, relaxed and happy people. We've lost contact over the years, but I hope they're still thriving today.

Thank goodness that the neat couple married each other, with similar personalities. Could have been a problem if, say, one wasn't as neat.

My mother and I had the same taste in many things. Very contemporary and colorful, a little "out there". . My sister, however, is just the opposite, careful and traditional; unwilling to try new and different things.

I think I used to be. I was overly concerned with things "matching", whether in home decor or fashion. Shoes and handbag had to be the same color!

maybe many of us have lost this urge. I know I have.

My mother started a business in the 70's. From then on she wore beautiful suits and sophisticated dresses. She decorated her house in French Provincial. In the 80's, she bought me a beautiful French Provincial bedroom set, and I still use it (although I have an adjustable bed attached to the headboard now.) Because I used to be a buyer of home decorative accessories, my homes have gone through many cycles of decor. Lol. Seeing so many items at furniture shows, lighting shows, gift shows, textiles shows (my favorite) I even went through a period of minimalism with next to no decorative accessories. I've always kept blue as part of my kitchen colors, and I've always been drawn to gray walls with white and off-white for trim. I dress feminine like my mother did, but I like jeans and casual clothes that she didn't wear. I like cool colors and neutrals; she liked warmer colors and neutrals. Now, I'm into Mid-Century Modern for my living room, dining room, and the other bedrooms...maybe that's nostalgia, idk, and a bit of industrialism and everything is based in gray. I bought the same kitchen dishes that my grandmother had, but mine are blue.. She also liked a modern decor. My grandmother made a lot of my clothes until I was in my 30's, including suits, dresses,slacks, swimsuits, etc. Both my mother and grandmother had great influence on my aesthetic.
