Hair coming off today!

My hair hasn't been cut for over two years. It is all the way down my back. It is also falling out. I have asked my former haircut professional (my daughter) to please cut it shoulder length today. I need it long enough to still put it in a short ponytail at the nape of my neck. The rest of it . . . gone!

It doesn't help that it tangles when I'm sleeping and aggravates my already chronically itching back which is either senile pruritus or stems from my autoimmune diseases.

I style it "up" 99% of the time anyway.

I'm wondering if I can have a hairpiece made of it. I think I'll google that right now!

Oh how I hate getting old. Everything is declining. Except for the "better than the alternative" cliche, I can see nothing good about it . . . in many ways.

So . . . good morning everyone!!

ETA: Hairpiece not a good idea. They want it cut to the scalp and I ain't doin' that!!

@LilacTree, don't know if this has happened to you ,but i do not have to shave my legs very often ,where hair use to grow,it no longer does!!!!!

Donate your long locks to provide wigs for cancer patients and children with hair loss. Childhood Leukemia Foundation. The Childhood Leukemia Foundation accepts hair donations for the Hugs-U-Wear program, which gives wigs to girls who have suffered hair loss as a result of cancer treatments.

I am completely hairless everywhere since menopause and the onset of Hashimoto's. I haven't shaved my underarms, arms, legs, or any other part of my body in over 25 years.

(I used to be a hairy little Italian girl, had dark hair everywhere!)

Cut mine every 6 wks. Long hair especially when we're older turns grey and ages you. Who wants to maintain something that makes you look haggard and tired.

Change is difficult, especially as you get older, but look at how much lighter you will feel! Now that should make you smile! Your hair might be a great change, but it will probably be a shock and you will hate it at first.

It is a drastic change but give it some time and you never know--you might love it in a few days! Run your fingers through it and shake your head!

It's completely white and very thin. Don't know if they would want it, but it's a good idea and I will look into it. Thanks for the suggestion!

@goldensrbest- I am older than dirt and was morbidly obese for YEARS! I had no hair on legs or underarms.

Then I switched to a very intense very healthy eating plan, six months later, hair. Brown too!

Not on my head of course. Just sayin', be sure you're nourishing your body.

Ha ha - I had to have a "shave" a few years ago for an emergency appendectomy. Never the same now, and grey. That old grey mare.

Though the hair on my head is not grey at all. I just had a chin length bob reduced to somewhat above the ears and I did have second thoughts but I love it now. I did the very long hair thing for many years and honestly it is a bother in real life.

There are many older women who have lost hair for a variety of reasons, and I am sure one of them would welcome a wig made fromyour "white and very thin" hair. I don't know if Locks of Love still is active, but check them out. You would make someone very very happy.

@SharkE That statement is questionable. I have white/ grey hair and it is long. It does not age me at all and I get complements on it all the time.. even from young gals 20 years old who say they wish they had my color. It might age you, but not everyone. I do not look haggard or tired at all. In fact for 61 people tell me how young I look even with my white hair.

@LilacTree I would look at it as an adventure. Aging is part of the many phases we go through in life. I know you don't like 'growing old' but you won't be the first in the entirety of all the females who've ever lived. Locks for Love accepts hair to make hair pieces for people on chemo. Relax and enjoy the ride.

It will feel so freeing. When I had my hair shaved off before chemo a couple years ago, I was a bit worried. Shoulder length to nothing. I got used to it and actually like it better shorter. I've maintained it at about two inches. So much easier to care for and can be done quickly. Good luck.

Actually, LoveRoses, I really feel lucky to have lived this long. I think if I had better health, I would not be so down on aging.

@LilacTree You always come across as healthy and vibrant. You haven't let your health issues stop that. I've lived longer than predicted by the medical community. I've also had chemo and hair gone as well. It really takes courage to 'age' and I am my own hero for living, loving, and posting on this forum. Best to You.
