Cable cutter update

Since getting rid of my cable TV my life has changed. I'm no longer sitting in front of a box all day, listening to endless bad news and watching mindless shows. I'm starting my fifth book and really enjoying reading again. Spending lots of time at Barnes & Noble looking for another book before the last one has been read. After the dogs eat their dinner, I sit and read until I go to bed. The rest of the day is working outside (when weather allows), getting my exercising in, and going for dog walks, chatting with you on the forum, cleaning and sitting listening to the peace and quiet that is now my home and the world outside. Only wish I had done this years ago. Oh yes, the dogs have finally adapted to the quietness of our home.

I'm not sure what this says about me, but I think I would miss not having some aural stimulation in my home. At least some classical music or books on tape.

Congrats on your efforts!

I've gone for long stretches without tv. Once my only tv died and it was 18 mos before I saved enough cash for another. Listened to the radio for local news & weather.

Currently a cord cutter. Bought a Mohu Leaf antenna with a 50 mile range. I pick up about 12 broadcast stations.

Don't miss cable. Don't miss the bill.

Congratulations. I would suggest you save money and use your library though instead of buying all of your books.

We cut the cord about 2 years ago and are very happy. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and many others are there to fill the void at a cheap price.

I still watch some tv and I always will, but since I got my iPad, I watch so much less.I've always been a reader, so between my kindle and tablet, the tv is off all day.I used to have it on for background noise, but now I have the radio on, it was nothing I planned, it just happened.

It's liberating, isn't it? I also have a Mohu Leaf antenna with a 50 mi range. Where I live, I can pick up 26 channels. That is enough to listen to the local news and weather and old re-runs, which I kind of like.

I guess we all have different ideas on things. I read at least 5 books a week. I use the library or download to my IPad from the library. Many people buy new books and keep them. I don't.

Your saving money. We have cable, but the rule in the house is it isn't turned on until 6:00 p.m. except during football season. If I had my way, I wouldn't have cable, but hubby has to have his car shows and football.

I just did this sort of. I have Internet and basic cable which is just local channels. I do have Netflix and Hulu but I am reading more and the t.v. stays off more.

Good for you !!!!! I am not a big TV person. I love to read ( am one of those people who always carry a book with me). I would love to ditch cable but my husband is a news and sports guy. Like others I shut off the TV after I get news, traffic and weather. There are maybe four TV shows I love to watch but I'd rather read. Wow........how great it would be if we only paid for what we actually watched on TV ? We pay $200 per month and use no more than $75 worth of cable. hhhmmmmmm..............................

We gave up cable. My husband 'needed' espn, so we pay $20/month for SlingTV channel and he's happy. Sling also includes live CNN,HGTV, BBC, Sundance, TBS, TNT +other channels for that same $20!

You do need a device ...we watch it thru our ROKU

Congratulations for dropping cable. I've done the same, almost. I receive only local (over-the-air) channels in my package (phone-internet-TV). I get two PBS channels and both have two subchannels, so that's six PBS channels. That's all I need - rarely watch anything else.

I agree. There is a feel and smell of the pages that can't be replaced.
