Planning a trip to Memphis. Please any and all suggestions on things to do and see. I looked up alot of things but like to know from some who have actually done the things. Graceland is on the list but any other suggestions appreciated.

We were there in 1994, a long time ago, and not sure how much has changed. Graceland is a must if you are a fan of Elvis and rock and roll in general. Get your photo taken at the front door. This is me and DH, before I went blond.

If the Peabody Hotel is still there and has the ducks. It is an amusing sight. Beale Street for the music and people watching. DH says they have a nice minor league baseball park in downtown if you like baseball and they are in town.

It's been a long time since I was there. Besides Graceland we took a tour. It stopped at Sun Records and varios places associated with EP life.

Biele St. (sp) was another spot we visited.

I also wanted St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital to be a part of our trip as St. Jude is my patron Saint and I donate faithfulluy to SJCRH.

Thats all I can remember after such a long time ---hope it helps somewhat.

Went to Memphis last summer. You have to see the Civil Rights Museum and the motel where Martin Luther King got shot. Across from that is a great BBQ place to eat. We did Graceland. Don't forgot to go to Bass Pro and take the elevator up to the top floor and go outside-- if you get a bite to eat at the restaurant they won't charge for the elevator ride. It's an amazing Bass Pro Shop unlike others I've been to. Also go to Beal Street and visit Schwab's Dept. Store (it opens up late, about noon, so check the hours). It's the oldest store and they carry some unusual things. Also they have lots of things on display (like a museum actually). Google it.

If youre down town be careful. Memphis is one of the nation's most dangerous cities. Bass pro shop has just opened in the Giant piramid down town. It's a store and destination hotel, also if you're on Beale street looking at the historic bars, the Gibson Guitar factory is just around the corner and gives great tours. You see wood go from boards to fully playing electric guitars in the tour. They also have historic signed guitars on the wall. Very fun. The Rendezvous is known for their barbque down in that section of the city. I believe the entrance is in a alley. https://www.yelp.com/biz/charlie-vergos-rendezvous-memphis

The other top barbque in Memphis is the Germantown Commissary. Not in downtown but great food. Parking is limited and you're eating on long picnic tables. The place has takeout and this may be a good option for you. http://www.commissarybbq.com/

If you are into very odd places. While on Beale street you may want to check out Dyer's world famous hamburgers. The are still using the SAME grease they started cooking in , in 1912. http://www.dyersonbeale.com/

Graceland is in the bad section of town, but they just opened a Guesthouse Hotel there. You may want to stay a night.

Maybe you should try Corky's Bar-B-Q. QVC recommends it; I haven't had it.

I visited Memphis for a week about 10 years ago. Went to Sun Studios, Graceland, the Civil Rights Museum, the Gibson guitar factory, and the Memphis Zoo. Thought the zoo was awesome, and so were all the other places. At the time they had two pandas, they had to go back to China a few years later so I don't know if they ever got more. All those places would be my must visits.

The people I met were so nice, true Southern hospitality. Stayed at a Homewood Suites that was not in downtown, but still close enough. Don't know if it's still there. They had free buffet for guests, the Memphis police were always there to eat too. It was good.

Graceland is a must, loved it and I was never an Elvis fan!! Beale St is also a must. Skip Corky's.

I'm in the middle of planning a trip there for my parents and me in October. We are huge Elvis Fans. So Graceland is the biggie for us. And this weekend, they open the huge 200k square foot Elvis museum complex across the street from Graceland.

My dad is a huge clasic car buff, and I found a great tour comoany Rockabilly Rides that takes you on a tour in a classic car. Excited about that. We are doing the tour that includes Sun Studios, which is cool since that was on our list of places to go. We are staying at the new Guesthouse at Graceland hotel on the Graceland property.

When I worked for a company one time they had an office in Memphis and so I had a friend that lived there and so every one is telling you great places and there is also a museum right at the Zoo but I can't think of the name of it but for sure she said the Peabody is wonderful and go on the roof top..........also she shops or did we have not talked in a few years at a place on Popular Ave called Jospeh's that is high dollar for Jimmy Choo shoes and other things.............Beale street she said is nice and if its pretty someone is usually playing music outside. I did have to go to a meeting there years and yuears ago and it was around July 4 so I stayed over with my friend and we went downtown to the water and watched the fire works it was beautiful.........but I never saw Sun Records or some of the places mentioned as I was limited on time. It is ok I thought Popular Ave had some beautiful old homes...............it is a long very long street. ENJOY also I would have loved to have gone to the Martin Luther King memorial but I don't even know when I had to go to Memphis if it was open or there.............I just can't remember. We stopped visiting after I left the company.

Oh I wish I would have had time to see Graceland..............but I live way to far away to make a trip to Memphis.........
