Websites that Remove Negative Reviews or Comments

Are you aware of any? I don't think it has happened to me but the whole idea bothers me to no end. I've left one star reviews on Hsn and they're still there like 10 years later so that's good. I did comment on a blogger's site like two years ago and it is still pending.

It happened to me when I posted a review about a bad experience with a dentist. Now I'm not quick to rely on customer or patient reviews.

I have no doubt at all that businesses and organizations do that. That's why I pay no attention whatsoever to customer reviews.

while i do read some reviews, i generally take all reviews with a grain of salt. i have seen horrible reviews on things that i love AND i have seen great reviews on things that i have hated. it doesnt bother me if they remove negative reviews or comments.

I've had negative reviews I've posted on Amazon and Zappos removed. When I see a product or business has a lot of good reviews I really do take it with a grain of salt.

On occasion I've seen local businesses with a lot of complaints on the Better Business web site and which have suddenly gone poof. In one instance a local retailer had thousands of complaints that were accompanied by a BBB warning to avoid the retailer's stores. Suddenly all the complaints vanished and the retailer had a A+++ BBB rating. Gee, wonder how that happened?

I'm with you as far as reviews goes @sunshine45, I tend to shop more on HSN and I'll go to read some of the reviews that have 2-3 stars and it's for reasons that have nothing to do with the product. I've seen low star counts for late deliveries, packaging wasn't to their liking, husband didn't like the outfit and other crazy reasons.

Every site that uses reviews or allows users to post reviews has terms and conditions that outline what's acceptable. If you violate those terms and conditions your review goes away. Some reviews really do seem to be written by people with an agenda other than informing people of the quality of the product/service.

As to the BBB ratings where a company went from a negative rating to a positive rating, chances are there was a change in management/ownership. If you buy a business with a dismal rating and go to BB and show that you're the new owner/manager they'll reset the ratings so you don't get punished for the misdeeds of the person who ran the place before you. It's the only fair way to handle such situations.

Yikes! This is discouraging! Amazon and TripAdvisor do this too? My company is on TripAdvisor and I am willing to bet they'd do anything to get rid of of negative reviews. Can you imagine what it type of world we lived it if people didn't have the ability to lie?

Home depot does not list any negative reviews.

ordered some small throw rugs, charged over 100.00. only recieved 1 rug (4 rugs were ordered). i had to beg to get my money refunded to me.

when I got a "please review our service email". I let them have it. got another please review our on line ordering email today. yup they didn;t post my 1st review.

I will not post again on thier web site nor will i ever order from them again.

But these sites NEVER truly do anything to weed out fake positive reviews, even Amazon. They pay lip service to doing it, but it's a drop in the bucket. ANY company couldn't care less if they have a zillion paid-for/fake positive reviews, but they'll fight tooth & nail to get rid of every single negative review they possibly can.

If I go to a review section and read 10 positive 5-star reviews that are completely generic, i.e. you could pop any name in and it would work, it turns me so off the company that I immediately look for an alternative. I'll shop anywhere BUT there. The reason? The company thinks I really am that stupid. Newsflash: I'm not.

I've had Amazon delete my negative review just because the vendor complained, but I was in the right stating the vendor displayed a photo of a named brand item and mentioned the named brand in their description but I got a cheap knockoff instead.....and I stated my complaint in a professional manner and did follow Amazon's guidelines!

I also find that Yelp "hides" negative reviews of restaurants, apartments etc and some just aren't true......One "highly recommended" restaurant was dirty....and we witnessed a waitress wipe down a table with a dirty cloth---we couldn't leave fast enough.....My friend wrote a review of her apartment and it suddenly disappeared......even though she is a bonifide resident and they still havent fixed her matinenance issues---and she's moving soon as her lease is up!

I just don't trust reviews!

You obviously haven't talked to many authors who have self-published through Kindle Direct Publishing. Amazon removes not just fake positive reviews but also some (many authors would say many) genuine positive reviews. A very common theme on the KDP forums is authors complaining of a genuine positive review that got poofed.

LOL. I was right in the thick of the "kwap authors can't take criticism" wars, including authors physically threatening reviewers, finding out where they live and work, and trying to get them fired. And oh yes, the website and machine created by KDP authors to steamroll over reviewers and threaten them. Know aaaaall about it; was there through most of it.

It may be a common theme that they claim "genuine" reviews are poofed, but I lost count of the authors who 5-starred their own books under different names and were caught out, and the 5-star reviews from spouses, siblings, MIL and neighbors. Amazon finally took some action.

All of those authors (and I'm sure the situation is ongoing) did a huge disservice to more ethical Indies - it's because of them the can of worms was opened in the first place - for the simple reason that a lot of "authors" can't handle any kind of criticism, and then genuinely bully and try to Real Life harm the reviewers. Why do you think there is a separate author forum? It was created to stop spam and harrassment of readers.

There are normal Indies (I wish them all well) and the psycho egomaniac Indies. Don't believe everything you hear.

I've had the same experience with Amazon. I rarely leave negative reviews. But on the few occasions when I've had a bad experience with a third-party vendor and have left a comment about it the vendor got Amazon to remove the review.

The Kohl's website won't even post negative reviews, I see people complaining about this often on the Facebook page for the store.

Several years ago I posted a so so review for shoes that I'd purchased at the Shoebuy website. They edited my review, posting only the good things I'd said about the shoes.
