QVC ANONYMOUS

Hello my name is Shanus & I've been hooked on too much QVC. Over the past month I have been able to cut back and only watch 1 or 2 shows a day. There is nothing on there for me to purchase anymore, but it's just a bad habit. Boredom brings back to that tv channel. I am aware of that now and will take a walk, read a book, listen to music, etc. I have made a list of activities to keep myself busy so I won't be tempted to watch Q & order things I don't need, won't fit or look good on me and I have to spend time returning. Thank you for your support. Anyone else need support?

BTDT many years ago but hardly buy much now, so I don't need anybody's support.

But I just wanted to be there on the other end. Hang tough! Sounds like you are on the right track.

It's been months since watching the Q and really once you are away from it you find out how mindless it is to sit there and watch. Saves you a ton of money too! I worked for a divorce attorney for awhile and I can't tell you how many women ran up HUGE bills on the Q that were part of the settlements (they have to list all their bills when they file). It's sad.

That reminds me of a time, after I had stopped being a 'career' person and i just had a pretty easy-going job, working at one of those mailing places.

There were just a couple of customers who we could count on seeing, AT LEAST once a week, with an armload of QVC and hsn packages for return. I remmeber one lady worked for a woman who kept buying tons of stuff. She kept having to return most of it, yet she kept on buying. What the heck? I guess it was somewhere between an addiction and just impulse.

But, man! These folks would pay out a ton of money to return stuff (this was before the return label deal anyway).

I used to also see a lot of returns of those robot vacuum cleaner things (Rooma or something like that?). Those boxes were HUGE and it cost a lot of money. One time, when we weren't busy, one customer took it out of the box and showed us how it worked. Man! What a waste of money. It just picks up surface stuff and you still need to vacuum to get the carpet to actually be clean! It cost quite a bit, especialy from a third party place like we were, to return something like that.

Anyway - the moral of the story is that, if for no other reason, consider the massive cost to return stuff that you purchase on impulse and don't even need or want.

Good luck Shayna @Shanus! I don't watch the Q anymore unless I'm surfing and see something interesting, which is rare. Especially since Joan Rivers is no longer with us, I have no desire to watch to pass the time or to be entertained. I get an email with the days special value, and if it interests me, I will take a look and watch the video online, but I don't physically watch it on tv anymore. There's no entertainment there for me.

@sunala Thank you for your help. I have some art classes lined up when summer semester starts and that will fill a lot of time. On April 17th, my husband (tax accountant) will be finished w/ 24/7 appointments and we start traveling. Our first trip is w/ "Mama". At 88, she no longer travels alone. My husband told her to choose a place & he'll make it happen. He wasn't close to his folks & adopted mine on day one. Now that's a son in law!!

I started watching shows on my ipad..Netflix, Amazon, on demand...so no commercials. I only watch QVC anymore when I'm on the treadmill and watching regular tv, then I switch to the Q during commercials.

When you don't watch commercials for a while, anything that resembles one becomes intolerable...saving $$ too the less I watch, the less I'm tempted to buy..

@Shanus When I was younger and working I spent a lot on the shopping channels. Now not so much. I enjoy watching sometimes, but other than a couple of auto ship beauty items, rarely purchase anything else. Still there are many tempting things out there to buy on the internet.... could use some support at times!

I went cold turkey about 2 months ago, and I do not miss it at all, now I only see it if I am flipping through the channels!

I do not feel I need support as of yet, but you never know!

@Shanus It will be so much better for your health to get up and move rather than stay seated with the tv.You will save money,get fit and feel more energetic.You have to expend energy to get energy.Yo can get outside more and experience nature and life...see people and enjoy interacting with them rather than watching sales presentations.These presenters are not our friends,they are salespeople and their job is to find out what makes us buy.

@Shanus I used to be a big QVC customer when I worked. Now I just buy if I see a nice top or pair of pants that I need. Trying to cut back. But yesterday I watched VPH and I purchased candlesticks and flowered candle rings. Thought they were very pretty so I ordered. She had so many pretty things for spring and Easter season. Had to stop myself. I'm bad. So good luck Shanus !

I've never been a big QVC buyer compared to many - I might purchase 6-8 things a year of varying cost, rarely over $100 at a time. But, I did use to have it on for background noise a lot, and would very occasionally buy something I saw during that time.

The past 10 or so months, though,I don't turn it on at all, simply because (1) there is never anything new, and (2) I hate 30-45 min. infomercials and don't watch them, period, whether they're on QVC or an "As Seen On TV" channel.

These days, if I buy something it's because I happened across it by accident.

@Quse. Great idea. I do have a TV on the wall in front of my treadmill. That would help if switched channels only during commercials. May be better than the "cold turkey" approach.

Thanks for vote of confidence @CareBears. It was 78 here in NC today. Took Sadie and Molly for a long walk. I did some weeding since rain predicted tomorrow. Completed 3 loads of laundry and then showered. No QVC or tv on all day. That's an accomplishment!!!

Good point @Moonchilde. If I don't turn on the Q, I'm not tempted to buy. Wonder if my cable company can put child lock on that channel.....Ooooh. I'll call in the morning.
