SCHOOL REUNION

Just received an email that my 50th year public school reunion is coming up.

have any of you attended a reunion or just decline because how you look

now or other reasons.kind of nervous i still look pretty good and would love

to see how the others are doing and their accomplishments.

@heart of savino, this my 50th year as well. I've been to several reunions along the way, including my 40th. I do not think that I will be going to this one.

It sounds as if you are very interested in attending, so I say you should go for it.

It would be nice if people attended reunions in order to see old friends and reconnect with them. Unfortunately, they actually come to make themselves feel better because they weigh less or look better ( in their mind at least). I graduated from a huge inner city school and my class had 1960 kids. I barely knew any of them , and I already keep in touch with all those I care to, seeing several old friends each summer while we are in Pa. I have no intention of going to my reunion this summer.

I went to a few class reunions and get togethers,my 50th will be coming up next year. I found the people who liked you in school will still like you and the people who didn't will still not be interested. The people who organized the reunion will be friendly, but will soon lose interest in you. If your friends don't don't show up you will pretty much be on your own. I am not very out going so starting a conversation with people who are really not interested in you is like pulling teeth. For me it was not worth the effort, but if you were popular in school and you have friends you want to see and you evidently want to be seen, go for it.

Our reunion was a disaster from what I hear. I didn't go because I knew it would be. My "friends" and I parted a long time ago and we have moved on. The few I've tried to connect with ... one time only.

Went to one husbands and it was fun. DH has gone to some of his and enjoyed. He's not sure about the next one.

My mom, dad and granny tried to never miss theirs.

Everyone will have fun, but you can never go back. Don't worry about what you do or how you look. Trust me ... they will look worse and still spill the same bull. LOL

Go and enjoy your reunion! I went to my 50th 5 years ago and am glad I did. It was the 3rd reunion I have attended (I live on the opposite coast). I was an average college prep student who attended a large suburban school. As I lived in one house, one neighborhood, throughout school, I knew many of the students either from elementary, HS or college (went to the State University). Read my yearbook before going to reunion (refreshes some memories) and made several new friends during planning of same. Enjoy it while you can; it's amazing how fast my classmates are now passing (it's well over 100 out of class of around 800). My class has a Facebook page so I get frequent updates.

@ Hello ( @heart of savino ) ~

You will have the best time ever "IF" you are NOT over thinking about ..." its only a reunion ", so most will be anxious to see you, learn what you have been doing and you will be so glad to just _HAVE_ fun with your former classmates. Talk ~ talk AND MANY HUGS, along with tears of remembrances.

We have had a few {each 5 years a part}, but I missed out on the 1st two since I was traveling across the world Business & some relaxation and rest vacations;had no way in getting back within their time window. Sorry about those.

Our last one was a 3 day event:

1). Meet & Greet, 2). Visited our school, toured around our hometown, then had a social get-together later that night. The 3rd night we had a 5 hour (another social event), then a lovely CHATTY dinner.

The next year my husband's reunion was super fun, also. His was a 2 day event, mostly greet & meet and dinner and dancing. Travelled for hours, but the fun was exhilarating! Spent about SEVEN hours each evening.

Can leave at any time.

Much too difficult to explain how much you 'may' enjoy, but do not give up the thought of you have changed bit everyone has.

YOU ARE NOT IN HIGH SCHOOL `AGAIN!

I went to my husband's and he with mine.

*Different schools, different states*.

Believe if you bow out, you will regret but that all depends how much fun you had with all friends. Remember that all of the "KIDS" are not young any more and are curious with excitement as hopefully you will be.

I was on the planning committee which was a job within itself, so always know: some one -many classmates go to a lot of trouble putting this together.

You can go alone or with a good friend -female or male. You will be surprised how many have been married twice-or have loss of their spouse.

Hope you have a great 'FUN' time as WE did.

I went to my 45th high school reunion last summer and I agree you can never go back, but if you want to go then go. I had only went to my 25th and so I thought I should try and go again. The 25th wasn't that great... I graduated with a class of close to 600 and I think only about 70 showed up last year and that included spouses. You never know who is going to come and who is not, but it was nice to see some of the kids that remembered me. I'll probably go to my 50th in 2021 if I am still here My DH didn't go with me last year and that was ok, he wouldn't have enjoyed himself as I didn't enjoy going to his. I say go and don't be nervous. The ones that don't talk are usually the ones that didn't talk to us in high school. Eveyone changes, but don't let that stop you from going.

Sounds like you want to go, so do it. You will probably have a great time. I had to go to summer school to graduate from grade school/I quit high school twice, but did get a GED in the United States Army.

The high school I quit twice, is having the 60th reunion this year. If they send me details I will certainly give it some thought. How I look? Never cared how anyone views my looks, and I am far from being a nervous type of person.

I went to Dh's 30th HS reunion it was fun, he also went to a reunion of mine it was not a specific year it was a group of us from my elementary school that reunited thru Facebook, it was a blast

I am so sorry that your reunion was a not so fun time.

You are so upbeat and full of joy, I would think everyone would have loved to be with you.

Sometimes people do change through the years, and I am aware of the old statement -Moved On-.

I left home~ _relocated_ after graduation from nursing/medical school when married. I lost track of many friends living far away geographically, but what a treat to be at our reunions.

I hope that your next one ('if so',) will be one great event.

I prayerfully want THAT for you.

I'm in contact with the only people I care to keep in touch with in my hometown. I have zero desire to go to my HS reunion. I left that place and never looked back.

I think if you are interested, you should go! Have fun. Not everyone there is out to judge looks, income, etc.

I have never gone to any of my reunions (my 40th will be in a couple of years....OMG, I didn't really understand the impact of that number until I typed it!!LOL). Ours are not very well attended, are mostly about drinking (and I don't) and from the few pictures I've seen online of the last couple, not a single person that I want to see or reconnect with is there.

My great aunt and uncle went to their high school reunions, and there were big grade school reunions of people who ever went to their little country school, clear up until they passed away in the mid eighties. They loved it. I just would find no joy in it, so I pass.

xraytech, As the years go by and school mates pass away, the petty ****** is pretty much gone. Who cares who was in what chique? The ones with hair may not have it anylonger and the beautiful ones look the same as everyone else. In my class, We have lost at least two class mates to death since 2014 and the death tree with names of the dead is filling. Times wasting.....

Last year was my 50th HS reunion but I didn't go. I went to 3 different high schools (due to moving, then a newer school being built) so really had no desire to travel 1700 miles for it. However, years ago I did go back for my 40th elementary school reunion. Most of us went K thru 8 at the same school so there were many memories there. At first I was a little reluctant because last time most of those people saw me I was 100 lbs. soaking wet (freshman in HS) and now I look way different. Then a former classmate offered to let me stay at her house for 3 nights so that clinched it for me. I had the best time and am so happy I went.

My 50th will be next year.

Went to my 10th year reunion & had a blast!!!!

Went to my 25th year, walked in & recognized not a soul nor did anybody acknowledge me. Mind you I walked around the whole room. Sat at the bar, smoked a ciggy & wondered who in the hell were all these old people. I had to walk back out to make sure I was at the right event & building.

Even the DJ was playing 60's music.

I walked up to the DJ & asked if he had any "booty shaking" music-hip hop in particular? He looked at me like I speaking in tongues. He then cleared his throat & stated it was what the reunion organizer wanted.

I walked out but not before piling 2 plates of food & grabbing 2 bottles of champagne (was labled 25th reunion) that I paid for in advance. I had to beg the food servers to wrap my plates w/aluminum foil.

I WILL NOT be attending my 50th.

@heart of savino To be honest with you, I couldn't care less about my HS reunions. I went to the 10 yr. and found that the cliquey people were still just as cliquey. I went to another gathering a few years ago and they still hadn't changed. That said, when I was in jr. high (now called middle school), we had an awesome group of kids. Nobody cared about what someone else had and we were all just friends - a very close class. The sad part is that our class was split between two differrent high schools so there were many who we never saw again. I was involved with some other ladies in arranging a 30 yr. reunion of our 8th grade class several years ago. People actually travelled from states far, far away. It was such a blast, yet the evening was over with all too soon. Since then, Facebook was invented and several of us have been able to stay in touch. We did another gathering, very small scale, last August (our 45th anniversary of our 8th grade graduation). It wasn't heavily attended, but we still had a fantastic time. We even got a few of our old teachers to attend. Sure, we all have our extra pounds, sags, bags, thinning hair, but who cares? Everyone else does too. I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Some of the ladies are planning to get together for a long weekend this summer.
