Etsy is launching a new website with tutorials on how to make items and the supplies to make them with - they will be competing with Michaels. Might be checking this out!

Watch Out Michael's: Etsy Is Entering The $44 Billion Craft Supplies Marketplace

"Etsy Inc. is going after the customers of the big box craft stores Michael's and Jo-Ann's. The crafty online marketplace is launching Etsy Studio, a site for craft supplies in April.

"When we began exploring this area, we discovered that something very important was missing: joy," said Chief Executive Officer Chad Dickerson.

"For a category that's meant to bring people so much happiness and connection, we think we can do a lot better."

The craft supply business is a $44 billion market dominated by Michael's Stores and Jo-Ann's Stores and Etsy wants a piece of it.

Dickerson said that Etsy will carry approximately 8 million items and Etsy craft suppliers will get first dibs on setting up their supplies in the Etsy Studio before the site is launched.

Dickerson said that the project had been code named Leo for Leonardo di Vinci because of its inspiration for creativity.

The idea came about from sellers expressing the difficulties to find the supplies they wanted or needed.

While Michael's and Jo-Ann's carries many products in the stores, they tend to be limited and general in nature.

Many crafters seek out specialty yarns, beads or fabrics to complete their projects or make them unique.

Another new feature of Etsy Studio is the project idea section.

Consumers that want to be crafty and do a project but can't come up with an idea can check out the project ideas, such as a cutting board that has a leaf design trim burned into it.

Etsy will demonstrate how the project can be done and which products should be bought to complete the project. DIY made easy........

The Etsy economy gets new items listed nearly every second and there are almost 45 million items for sale on Etsy.com..........."

@CelticCrafter - it just means you have to sew faster to reduce your stash to refill your stash, lol
