Looking for Free Reverse Phone Number Look UP

I get lots of calls and the ones that are scams have been reported by others and I can block them. But lately I have been getting lots of calls, no message, but local phone numbers. I don't want to block and frankly I don't always answer either. I have searched for FREE white pages, reverse look up. Seems all of them have a charge.

Does anyone know of a free service... not interested in one month free trial. LOL

Unfortunately, reverse lookups for those numbers are not very effective because the companies get shut down or switch numbers so often that the information can't be kept up to date.

You can try 800notes.com, which is a free crowd sourced site. Users enter the data on the scam/spam calls themselves.

Just because the #'s appear local does not mean that they are. 99.9% of them originate from overseas.

Turn your phone ringer off if you are tired of hearing your phone ring.

Put your answering machine on speaker phone. If the person does not leave a message then as far as I am concerned, no one called!

Remember, this is income tax time. Your phone will be ringing off the hook till April 15. The calls will slow down afterwards.

@Mz iMac Good info. I didn't know that. I have been receiving several calls with our local area code, then hangups, and I kept wondering why they are hanging up. I never answer calls unless I know who it is, but when the phone rings, I look at the number. Good to know. Thank you.

When I get these calls, I google the numbers and the general information comes up for FREE!

I usually Google the number also and get enough information to make a decision about whether or not to block the number.

This is what I also do. It is the most effective way I've been able to find out anything about a given number.

I've never found a free site for identifying numbers. Usually they bait you in to make you think you can just get the info, then you end up on a 'pay' page that precedes any possibility of getting actual info.

@bonnielu I use whitepages.com/reverse_phone. I spent some time there recently looking up several no-message out-of-state numbers. All but one came up fraud/scam. No names or businesses associated with them. And some people who'd gotten calls from the same numbers left notes.

There's a premium service you can pay for to get more information. But all I got...and all I wanted to know...was free.

Not only are they using local numbers, yesterday I had a scam call where the caller was a local grocery store. Of course, when I answered, the caller was from overseas.

That is what I use to look up numbers. If it is a scam and others have been called, there will be some info on that website.

The scammers are so adept at manipulating telephone numbers that it's pretty fruitless to try to bock them; by tomorrow they'll be using a dozen more numbers. This really hits home when your own number comes up on the caller ID. They can be out of the country but the ID looks like a US area code.

FYI, I've read where the latest country to jump on the "scam America" bandwagon is the Philippines. They are more likely to speak decent English.

@bonnielu ... I use anywho(dot) com for reverse U.S. phone numbers. There are a couple places called Whocalledme(dot)com and Whocalled.us/lookup for other numbers. Those calls are frustrating...although we usually just screen our calls and don't even answer unless we know who is calling. Otherwise, they can leave a message...or I might pickup if I recognize the caller.
