Just received an odd call from CVS Pharmacy.

The pharmacist just told me that when she tried to fill a prescription for me, that it came up on her computer that it was denied because my insurance company wanted me to start taking only one pill a day of a med I'm on instead of two! I've never heard of such a thing. Has anyone else? I will obviously have to call the insurance company on Monday and try to find out about this. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I've heard of insurance companies denying to pay, but never this. I'm sure the pharmacist will enlighten you and then a call to the doctor would be in order.

This was all the pharmacist explained to me. Her only suggestion was that I called the insurance company. I am really confused by this phone call. Feel like it's a Candid Camera joke or something!

@newjersey ~ I've never heard of such a thing. Was it in fact a pharmacist that called you or a pharm tech? I would make sure I spoke to a pharmacist. Good idea to call insurance co. on Monday, and your doctor.

@newjersey I have never heard of that before, recently my insurance company denied a medication that I take for my heart, now my doctor has to appeal their decision and explain why it is imperative to my health and why I cannot go without, on Monday I start the third week without the medication, and still no word from the insurance company, scary!

My doctor changed my prescription for two pills a day. Pharmacy said insurance told them they would only pay for one pill a day.

When I tell my doctor, she will probably call the insurance company and plead her case. I'll see what happens.

I would thoroughly discuss this with your physician--he/she is the one who prescribed the med......

@newjersey I think you got a courtesy call from your pharmacist to avoid you having to make a trip to the pharmacy. Through the years i've been told when I got to the pharmacy that my insurance wouldn't cover the medication.

@AKgirl2, I'm not sure if it was a pharmacist or a tech. I just called CVS back now, spoke to the same person, and told her I really can't understand why/how an insurance company call tell anyone how much medicine he/she should take. The CVS person told me she has heard of this before. I know I haven't. I'll call my doctor and insurance company Monday and see what happens. Now I'll fret and be anxious about this all weekend.

I actually had a pharmacist refuse to fill a prescription for my five year old son. She had a "conscientious objection." I wanted to punch her in the conscientious nose.

Good news. Always better to be safe than sorry. I did a quick google search and there are actual CVS Pharmacy scams out there.

The doctor will probably have to explain to the insurance company why it's medically necessary that you have what he prescribed. You should call the doctor's office Sometimes the pharmacist will.
