VALENTINE'S DAY W/ SOMEONE SPECIAL?

After being married for 47 yrs., Valentine's Day celebrations are no longer on our list. We have dinner out often since there's just 2 of us & we really don't "need" anything as a gift. Once in awhile DH may come w/ roses, but not really necessary. We have romantic evenings all the time. I'm spending Valentine's Day w/ my Mother (88 and alone in assisted living). I thought she'd enjoy a special early dinner out.

We are going out to dinner with our daughters. My husband always likes to treat his "Valentine's" to a special dinner and flowers and a little special treat.

My dh writes a Valentine poem every year and we mail or hand deliver around 90 to family and friends near and far.

Just a small way to keep in touch & let them know we love and care.

My late husband used to take off every Valentine's Day and bring flowers to me and our 3 daughters. We'd go to early dinner.

I always loved Valentine's Day, red is my favorite color. My husband died years ago. I have no interest in anyone else, but it's still fun to remember way back when.

I like to think of young people celebrating a day when we remember love and loved ones. Romantic or just remembering those we love is a good thing.

When it falls on a weekend, we generally go to dinner. Being that it's on a Tuesday, we probably won't do anything. Honestly I don't really care.

I believe I mentioned somewhere about this. DH and I will probably have a nice quiet dinner together on the Sunday before the 14th. He has a job to do on Valentine's Day. After 53 years together, it is our way.

Yes, my wife. That day will be our 15 anniversary of marriage, along with being together for 30 years prior. I purposely chose Valentines Day for my personal family reasons. I have mentioned those reasons several times on this forum.

This day will always be an important day for my wife and myself. She understands and fully agreed with my choosing that specific day.

I am glad you were able to spend the day with your mother. My mother died 48 years ago, I was only 29 at the time. I am sure it was a very happy and enjoyable day for both of you.

Our first Valentine's Day together was 1961. We were in 6th grade and my husband gave me a small box of Conversation Hearts.

My husband still insists on getting me flowers and a special treat. I usually make him his favorite dinner and dessert.

It's our anniversary so a special day for us. We don't do gifts. Normally we go out to dinner etc, but last year we had friends coming off a cruise that day who were going to stay with us so we didn't. I ronically, they called and said they are coming again this year - on the same day.

We got engaged on Valentines day 63 yrs ago. My DH surprised me with a diamond engagement ring as i opened the door expecting to go to a high school valentines day dance........lol We were 16 and 18 yrs old. Sweet memories.Wish I knew how to post a picture here.

He died 25 yrs ago ,seems like yesterday...........we would be married 63 yrs this July

We are going on 44 years married and we still do a little something for Valentines. He always buys me Sherry's Berries, which are huge strawberries dipped in chocolate and a card. I bought him a set of coins he wanted and a card. We'll probably go to dinner some where nonething fancy.

Don't know why, but I love Valentine's Day! (Pardon the pun). My husband always brings me roses. We stay in and order a heart-shaped pizza from a local pizza place. I give him a couple small gifts ~ usually food items that are from the dogs and myself. This year I bought him a heart-shaped paperweight (corny, I know)! I bought the greatest pair of flats from Kate Spade that are red suede with a red glittered heart on top ~ he said we'll go out to lunch at a local golf club so I could wear my new shoes!!! It's a quiet celebration but perfect for us. To those of you who celebrate, Happy Valentine's Day!!! :-)

Yes, my husband. We dine out if we choose but not on Valentine's Day. We either go before or after to avoid the crowds. Cards, maybe flowers - we know our love for each other has been strong.

Friends? We part ways in common there. Ain't know way any of my friends tell me when they are coming. We set the times when friends want to visit our home, not the friends.

Try to have a happy Anniversary Day. I would hope these are good enough friends that they would know your Anniversary is on that celebrated day. If not!

Are they good friends ? Well let's see - we were in each others weddings back in 1970. By then we had already been good friends all thriough HS, she & I went to the same nursing school so we could be together, and even now separated by 1200 miles we all still get together frequently through the summer when we are up north and at least once or twice over the winter they come and visit us for a few days and we are pleased as can be to see them. We can celebrate our anni any time - but they are coming 1200 miles to visit us.I'll probably have a cake or something for us all to celebrate valentines day.

Been married 42 years and we always make a big deal about VD. So glad it's on a Tuesday this year, we'll go have lunch at the Chinese restaurant and see who gets the prize for the mushiest VD card.
