As of 5PM, I have filled all jewelry special orders, mailed and/or delivered them. This afternoon, I picked up my final checks from the galleries that had displayed and sold my pieces. Now what?

@Kachina624 Yes, you're right. Kinda depressed tonite trying to think about my next step. Jewelry on a daily basis is out. At 68, I've been bent over a jeweler's bench for 30 yrs. & it does take its toll on neck & shoulders. I have several painting classes lined up and my studio is set up w/ jewelry making at one end & painting, etc. at the other. I will continue to make jewelry for myself, family members & gifts. If I really miss it, I can do special orders only. Producing enough one of a kind pieces for galleries and shows is a chore now. Thanks for your thoughts.

OP, I hear you. I've been a professional writer for 35 years, and although I'm not nearly ready to retire, I nneded a new tack/creative outlet. Picked up camera and never looked back; my muse found me.

To me? No such thing as semi-retired. Kinda like semi-preggers, you either are or you aren't. Guess I am missing something from content of your post. Lot's words that make no sense relative to retirement to me.

Now what? That is my question.

You probably weren't, in exactly the same way a 9-5 person is, ruled by the clock and the calender, but the best part of retirement is being responsible to no timetable but your OWN.

Enjoy. When you feel like it, you'll find something to do that's creative and will keep you as busy as you want to be.

@Kachina624. You're so right. Depending on the artist's chosen media, it can be brutal on the body. I did yoga to stay stretched out and limber & took frequent breaks from the "bench" to lie on the floor w/ my foam roller. In my 50's and early 60's, I started having monthly deep tissue massages on neck & shoulders & frequent visits to the chiropractor. I was also taking a week off here or there to do watercolors and work w/ other mediums on canvas. It's tough. I'm sure that potter experienced the same. We also get stale & yearn for a change. Enjoyed sleeping late this morning...am usually up at 5AM and work until 1PM or 2PM. Couldn't believe the clock said 7:30!!!

@hckynut Hi. Semi-retired is retired as a jewelry designer/metal smith. An artist is always an artist. It was a rhetorical question. I know I'll still be involved in the arts. I have my teaching degree as well if I decide to "sub" parttime. There are options. Just thinking out loud.
