If I like it, I buy it...but I don't buy things that are too short, too tight, or show too much cleavage...also no stilettos. I prefer to wear jewelry that could be defined as simple elegance.

I recently had an appointment with a Nurse Practitioner. She walked in with a white lab coat on that was not buttoned. She was showing a lot of leg..heavy legs. When she sat down, her skirt under the lab coat hiked up almost to the bottom of her panties. When she crossed her leg, you could see her panties if you wanted to look. She mentioned that she was 48 years old. She looked it, she was overweight, and she looked trashy. I don't care how good of a Nurse Practitioner she might be, I just found her appearance to be offensive. Should a medical clinic have to issue a dress code for their providers?

I like that you point out that she "looked" 48 as if there is a certain "look" and that she had heavy legs. As if a person with thin chicken legs can pull off the look.

Your 67 do you "look" that old? or older?

@AngusandBuddhasMom... She looked every wrinkle of her 48 years. In fact, I would say that she looked closer to the way a lot of people look in their 60's ... like she was one of those people who fried themselves in the sun. Maybe that was why she felt obligated to tell me that she was 48. And...yes, most women are pretty good at "guesstimating" another woman's age.

Are you trying to put words in my mouth @AngusandBuddhasMom? Nowhere did I say that a slim person could pull off that look in a professional office. I merely mentioned that she had heavy legs because apparently she thought she had the legs to pull off that look.

And just to answer your inquiry about whether I look 67 or older: Fortunately, I inherited the youthful skin gene from my mother and grandmother...and with my fair skin, I have always stayed out of the sun. My grandmother died at 97 with no wrinkles. My mother is 92 and has no wrinkles. Now, neither of them had the kind of muscle tone that they had when they were 40 years younger, but they have no wrinkles or bags under their eyes. Since you asked...people tell me that I look 15-20 years younger than I am. Any more questions that I can answer for you?

Nope your putting your own words in your mouth. And missing my point in your zest to try and correct me, oh and of course you look "younger" thou protest a wee bit too much. I just find it amazing that you say you look 15-20 years younger and point out at the same time she "looked"every wrinkle of 48 yrs. So..do ya see what I am saying? Probably not.

@AngusandBuddhasMom...I think we were having an innocent conversation here about what looks age-appropriate and what does not. You seem angry and have taken my example personally. Fire away if it makes you feel better. I have reached the end of this conversation.

Even if I am a "senior", I dress the way I like. By that I do not mean stiletto's (uncomfortable), short skirts (not so good legs), or low cut tops (too shy). But I like to dress in fashion regardless of my age. I just bought a camo jacket and I love it. Do you dress in what you like no matter what your age as long as it's appropriate and in good taste?

I never did understand the meaning of age-appropriate dressing. To me it seems to be something that society has defined. I don't consider myself to be a conformist when it comes to fashion. I've always enjoyed being a creative person and I think the fashion side of me is no exception and has no limitations.

Top itself, Style classic! But that's not enough. Clothes need proper detail and most importantly! Fabric and cut. Don't understand why not? Update fresh. 💁

Clearly, in this country we are free to dress as we please - however, remember those pictures of the ways some people are dressed at Walmart? They are also dressed as they please and they think they are expressing their right to wear what ever makes them happy. Whenever this subject comes up here on the boards and someone just has to go off on a tangent about wearing whatever -- my mind always goes to those Walmart people pictures.

I am a person who carries weight around my middle - much thanks to prednisone - and hips so I can absolutely never wear skinny anything. My pants MUST be straight legs and my capris can't be those ones that are slim at the bottom, as that would really emphasize my rotund middle. However, on this board I frequently hear posters malign anyone who would wear capris that are loose at the bottom as being oh so dowdy and passe' and matronly etc etc etc. Why can't some women understand that not everyone has the same body to dress and that we all have to do that which is best looking for us, even though it may not be the current trend? Isn't it sad that these posters have to say such ugly things to make someone else feel bad?

I don't believe in such a thing as dressing for your age. Some of us might be surprised to find that others might not think we look so great. No matter what anyone wears there will always be critics who think they know best!! While I often think what others are wearing looks not so good or ages them but that's just what I think and as long as anyone likes and is comfortable wearing what they like not anyone's business!!
