Question about the word PLEAD,

Is it Joe pleaded guilty, I see this on TV crawler???

Or is it Joe plead guilty, sounds ed as in Edward

Pleaded is correct; pled is non-standard, but is very common in American English. I just read an interesting article on this by Jacob Marian. (Google plead vs pled).

Also, if you hang yourself you say hanged for past tense, not hung.

Often has a silent t.

Ir's like: how do you plead (before hand) or how do you intend to plea?

When it's done, it's pled (past tense).

Depends on whether you go by common language usage or legal usage. Here is an interesting brief set of comments from the ABA (American Bar Association) Journal written not long ago:

Accept the forum opinions or the most common preference of use of the US Supreme Court! Probably not a big deal any way you choose to use it. (And yes, people are hanged, not hung.)

I don't care what grammarists decide to use, but for me it is much easier to understand, and I use the word: "Joe pled " guilty". Very simple and easy to understand.

I don't really get all this nonsense on present tense/past tense, when the word "Pled" does exist. More grammatical nonsense in my book. Isn't the english language difficult enough already? Lead(bullets are made of lead)Lead( as in a leader), just a couple to ponder.

Enough of the grammatical dramatization when simple words will suffice.
