High School Class Reunion Coming Up

Ugh...I can't believe my 50 year class reunion is coming up. The only reunion I went to was my 10 year. At that time, I said I wasn't going to anymore until my 50 year...and here it comes already! How did that happen so quickly?

I'm really not sure that I want to go. I keep in touch with four friends that I went to high school with. My class had about 300 students. I was just a studious, quiet student who took part in some extra-curricular activities in high school. However, I wasn't one of the "cool kids." I only went to one college reunion too. I would hope that by the 50 year reunion people would have outgrown their little cliques.

What has been your experience with class reunions...especially after 40 or 50 years? Thanks!

I have never gone to any. I debated for a bit about my 50th, but decided ,I really didn't care about people, I hadn't seen in 50 years

My 50-year is coming up this year as well. I have no plans to go because there were 650 people in my graduating class, only one person I was friends with is going that I know of, and I haven't been in touch with anyone in the years since graduation. I was one of the quiet kids; no reason for anyone to remember me.

What's funny is, previous reunions were all out of state, and now that I've moved 350 miles away, the 50th reunion is in town AND on my birthday, lol.

40th coming up soon and am undecided on whether to go or not. I havent seen any of my classmates in almost 40 years although talk to a few on the phone. I moved as far away from where I grew up as possible LOL. I really didnt have a great time at the only one I attended (10th) Funny I dont even know if I would recognize alot of them or them me. LOL Am still undecided as well as this cost money, travel and I know there is a clique of organizers who organize it to suit them. Decisions decisions eh?

My 50th is coming up, and I'm not going. My real friends were made in college and in the workplace. I just don't see the point.

My 50th was in a distant state...........and I wasn't exactly a "teachers' pet".......it was a school full of "cliques", and I wasn't a member, either. Didn't waste the money.

I went to 25, 35 and 50; they were all in Silver Spring MD (my hometown). I too graduated with a large class (800) and knew in passing a number of my classmates. Really enjoyed 50th and there were over 200 in attendance. I had several well known classmates who have shown up at the other reunions I attended but for the most part skipped this one (Sonny Jackson who played for Astros did come--he led us to state championships in baseball, football and basketball). I lived in same neighborhood all through school and college so I had many acquaintances from as far back as kindergarten with whom I reconnected. The sad thing was the obligatory slide show of those who passed; there were a number that I hadn't realized were gone.

I also enjoy going to DHs reunions (on the opposite coast) as the pressure is off, so we spouses really enjoy one another.

I was from a small town and there were only 70 in our class, so we were family

We all grew up together, so seeing the ones that are left is wonderful My very best friend and the first boy I ever kissed (1st grade) passed away So I was so glad that I got to see him one more time

Unless you were popular, active in several extracurricular activities and had quite a few friends - i.e. a fair amount of attendees would know you and be happy to see you, and your high school days were memorably happy ones, I don't see the point. Especially if you're not a fairly social extrovert who enjoys superficial party chat with people who are in reality strangers after 50 years.

I'm not meaning to knock those who go and enjoy, but I think only in certain circumstances would many people enjoy a 50 year reunion, vs a 10-15 year reunion.

I went to one high school reunion, either the 5 or 10 year one, and haven't gone to another one since. The people that I was friends with and wanted to stay in touch with are still in my life. I hope that everyone else is well and happy, but I don't have any interest in seeing them. The same for college.

What I found is that the same cliques are still there, the same people sit together. The last one I went to, the committee sent out a questionnaire to hand in asking all kinds of personal questions, i.e., what's your degree, how much do you earn, how many kids, grandkids do you have, what kind of recreational vehicles do you have, on and on. Still playing one-up. I went to a school with kids from elite parents, and they didn't get over it.

Once I ran into a school mate in a grocery store. I tried having a short conversation with her and she was snippy. Her response was "well, I guess your memory is better than mine." Yeah, don't need it. High school was a longgggg time ago and I'm over it.

I had no desire to go to any reunion. I run into people from time to time that I went to high school My kids went to high school with some of the kids of people I went to high school with That's good enough. Lol

@Scooby Doo Oh.....I've run into a couple of "those", too! PHD's with a mansion on The Lake...... VP of "The Big Bank"......... and on and on...............

We went to DHs 50th in November and it was FUN!

FaceBook has put us both in touch with the past. New friendships have been forged.

Do I want to go to my own? NO LOL It is nice for me to find out that girls I went to hs with turned out to have productive and happy adult lives. The girls in "the cliques" are not included here (I don't care if I never see those girls again)

DH is thrilled to have found out that the girls had seen him as "eligible" and wanted to date him back then! He said he sure wished he had known this!

His reunion was held in San Antonio (hs located there), so the wives loved the ambiance and shopping. And the wives of his buddies were FUN.

Again, I'm not sure I'd ever go back to one of mine... it wouldn't be a fun trip.

My answer: it depends!

@Moonchilde ... I didn't even enjoy the 10 year! It was like everyone was trying to show off about where they went to college, if they owned their own house, if they had children, what kind of car they had, what kind of job they had....blah, blah.

I would assume people would be more realistic at a 50 year reunion, but they would for the most part be strangers to me. Not my thing.
