Motorcycle Deaths

I don't like motorcycles and was pretty happy when my nephew sold his.

This week alone, there have been two deaths in our area due to motorcycles. One young man had an accident four months ago and just succumbed to his injuries.

The other was a person who collided with a deer and neither one survived.

At the hospital where I worked they called riders "ORGAN DONORS".

Totally agree with you! I live in the Dallas area, and car drivers can be insane here - lots of road rage. It's dangerous enough when you're in a car, but motorcycle riders have no protection.

My brother finally sold his motorcycle. He is an excellent defensive driver, but finally realized the odds were not in his favor.

I live in a State that DOES NOT require motorcyclists to wear helmets.

Helmets don't save lives. They just save the head parts from being scattered.

I live in Ohio so it's not exactly motorcycle season right now for us. But come spring and summer when more are out, there are always more accidents at the beginning of the season because motorists aren't used to looking for them.

DH and I own a Harley. Because of hectic schedules we do not get out on it much. I have to say I am more and more nervous everytime we ride. Last year there were several fatal motorcycle v car accidents and every one was the fault of the driver of the car. They crossed the center line, pulled out in front of the motorcycle, made a left turn in front of a motorcycle, etc.

Helmets most definitely do save lives. A few years ago an acquantance was riding, went off the road and hit his head on the pavement. His head wasn't "splattered" but it did hit and he died from that head injury. The coroner said had he been wearing a helmet, he would be here today.

I also know someone who was hit by an F-150 truck. His head hit into the bed of the truck. Luckily he was wearing a helmet and when he hit the truck, a huge chunk came out of his helmet. Had he not had that helmet on, that huge chunk would have come out of his head.

I call them donor-cycles.

What gives me the shivers, is when I see a motorcycle rider wearing shorts as they ride down the road.

If they have to lay down that bike.....

Once when I was about 22, a friend took me for a spin on the back of his motorcycle, and we just went around a parking lot. We weren't going that fast, but I was still terrified that I was going to die.

So, while I like looking at motorcycles, I'll never, ever own or ride one.

I don't like them either but to keep things in perspective, in the same time period there were probably 200 car accidents.

My son has one and so do his friends. His best friend seriously I've lost count how many accidents he has been in. His father was killed 11 years ago on his. My son had another friend killed on his a couple years ago. My son's had a problem with his and hasn't rode it for a few years. I think he's done. Thanks heavens. Every year I mentally start counting how many are killed on the news. I'm sure they don't report all of them. When I see one on the road I have to close my eyes. For fear of what I might see. The one thing I hate the most is reading the obituaries that say " They died doing what they love most". Oh really,What about Thier families they left behind. Selfish.

my husband and i were driving home one night and this was kind of in the country. we came upon a police officer and there was a man lying in the road. he had been driving a motorcycle.

we both took a good look at him and you could tell he was dead. he was so still. he was a little bit older. it must have been a hit and run.

it was so awful seeing that and we were haunted by it for weeks.

I am not a fan of motorcycles. I dated a guy once who had one and I burned my leg on the exhaust, that was enough for me.

I do think if someone is foolish enough over the age of 21 not to wear a helmet, that is on them.

A very good friend in High School fell off a motorcycle and all his fingers on one hand had to be amputated. That was enough to make me say NO - not ever.

I cannot understand the bumper sticker that says, "Watch Out For Motorcycles". I have been ran off the road to avoid motorcyclists speeding in excess of 100mph that literally come out of nowhere weaving in & out of traffic. 90% of them do not show respect, speed limits are a joke & there are simply no do-overs for any of us that are victims of such carelessness. I commute 100 miles a day. I hope I can continue to do so.

Our I-25 was shutdown for 4 hours just South of Santa Fe, yesterday evening, inconveniences thousands and making a mess out of of rush hour due to a wreck involving two motorcycles. I don't know if there was a fatality but I hate the darn things. I shudder at the way some people ride them... talk about risky behavior.

Hubby and son both have Harleys, I have a Kawasaki Ninja. We have ridden for a long time and love it but are well aware of the dangers. We have to look out not only for ourselves but for every other car out there-trust me-I will see you before you see me.

I live in Illinois and there is no helmet law-to each his own I guess but I certainly wear my helmet and so does my son. DH chooses not to unless it's law. I always try to get him to just put it on. They do save lives-we have a family friend who had an accident where a dog that was laying in a deep ditch ran out in front of him and his helmet saved his life. No he doesn't ride anymore.

Accidents happen and while it is dangerous I am going to live my life and try not to let fear keep me from doing things. We've ridden some of the most beautiful roads in Florida, Gatlinburg, TN, Arkansas, Missouri and met some of the most wonderful bikers/people. I love my biker friends-they are indeed family.

DH has a Harley. He gave it up when the kids were little, at my request. When they graduated HS he got his Harley. He took safety classes. He was so good they wanted him to be an instructor.

It makes him happy. There are worse things he could be doing. Illinois winters are tough on him.

btw - I'm a big chicken chit. I don't ride at all.

The problem isn't motorcycles or motorcyle riders, it's the idiots on the road that don't pay attention to the fact they there are other people on the road too.
