Macy's is struggling again

There's another post about the same but what everyone needs to be clear on is this is nothing new, the announcement was back in August I believe and it's 68 of the 100 stores they already announced.

My Macy's is a class C but it is the only store in my small town that carries my favorite bras. Thank goodness mine isn't one of those closing.

We have 2 in our town, and are losring one of them so I am sad. I prefer the one they are closing in a shopping mall just a little over a mile from my house. The other one is downtown. I just haven't been able to get out much and shop there for a while. I hope things pick up this year and they can recover. I enjoy shopping in their stores.

There was an article in the paper recently about Macy's. They are scaling back stores and increasing on line sales. I feel bad for any business not doing well. I stopped shopping there years ago when they cut back on name brands and increased the style and charter lines.

Macy's has no class. They are strictly a money machine. Customer Service -- I don't think so. When they bought Marshall Field's in Chicago it was a sad day. Unfortunately, we lost so many other stores - Bonwit Teller from the East coast and I. Magnin from the West coast. I wish we had more options. Looks like Sears may be seeing it's last days too.

I find things I like in my local Macy's, but they often aren't in stock in my size. I know I can have a sales associate check inventory and have it shipped to me, but it's actually easier for me to snap a photo with my phone, go home and find it on the website and order it myself. I can also use mrrebates this way, and get some cash back.

Not surprised. One of my local stores is closing. Macy's is a disaster, compared to other stores. No clerks, mess on the floor, torn carpet. Crowded aisles. And that is the local "flagship" store.

In some respects, I think Macy's overbuilt and these closings are needed. There are 4-5 within a one hour drive of me in Michigan. One of those will close.The one closest to me is pretty dumpy and if I want to shop at Macy's. I'll drive to a different one. In Florida, it's a bit of a further drive, but there's 3 of them quite close together, one of which will close.

An article in this morning's newspaper says the Macy's near me will not be affected. The store I shop at is fine, well stocked, and has some great sales.

Sorry to hear others are not so well off.

Announced this morning the only one we have in our town is closing and it means 65 jobs. First it was built to house Sanger Harris then sold to Foley's then became Macy's. Will have to see what we get next in such a big store surrounded by so many small boutiques. So sorry for the families.

@beckyb1012 I bet it will take a long time to find a business for a large store.We have lost many in our area and they remain vacant years later.I think the days of large clothing stores are over.We have become such good online shoppers and the rent for these buildings in malls is crazy high.

It is a shame too. Since I hate shopping I only go to the mall about once or twice a year. Did not go at all during Christmas in fact I went only for a quick trip to the AT&T kiosk in Sept. and on election day American Cookie was offering a free cookie with I voted sticker. Sugar fix was enough for me to deal with the traffic at 4:00 on a Tues. afternoon. Otherwise, I just go to the independent offsite stores like Macy's. Oh well always the internet.

I haven't spent a dime at Macy's since 2013, when they sent a letter to Rick Perry and asked him to veto a fair pay for women act here in Texas. If they don't believe it should be easier for women to take a company to court after learning they've been paid less than men for the same work, then they don't deserve any of my money.

I never go in a Macy's nor do I ever buy online from them... possibly there are many many who do not shop Macy's. Like Sears... Macy's is a dying breed.

Where are we to go to shop ,with all these stores closing,if one wants to go to a actually store? Shopping on line is a big part of stores closing, i am guilty.

I stayed away from Macy's during the holidays because the traffic was horrible. I'm hoping to go next week again. My last shopping experience there was awful but it might have been an isolated incident.

After my Doctor's visit yesterday morning, we did a run into Macy's... so empty as was the parking lot for the mall. I told my husband, "Remember when it was always crowded?". Our store is pretty nice, th ey've even added a Lenscrafters and you can use your Macy's card.

Macy's had bought out quite a few chains around the country over the years. They have been way overextended for years. There are a huge number of stores now called Macy's that were never Macy's stores to begin with. There never could have been room for all of them. They're just having to ditch many of the stores they overbought.

I have never shopped at Macy's as I've never found anything (clothes-wise) I like there.
