it is chilly here in L A. glad they had their life jackets on - and they kept them moving. i loved the one where the dog is skimming the water and barking in delight.

Well done by Lucy Pet! The float was certified as the longest (126') and heaviest (74 tons) single-chassis float in parade history. The dogs were chosen by nationwide search:

"These are real water dogs who can't wait to get on the surfboard," says Joey Herrick, founder and owner of Lucy Pet Products. "I don't know who will be having more fun the surfing dogs or the millions of people who will be watching all around the world!"

The dogs are used to surfing in the chilly Pacific. Several of the dogs are from here in San Diego. The retriever belongs to someone in my neighborhood and we've been following along and awaiting the float. I know the tank was heated, but not sure about the rest of the float. It was fun and definitely the talk of the parade!

This is why I love California! I live near the ocean, Capitola, Santa cruz, etc. dogs love it. I see them surfing safely in shallow water all the time. They have special boards, jackets, life saving gear on. Some dogs just take to it. Some dogs are afraid, and their wishes are respected.

I think the water on the Rose Parade Float was not cold. They usually bring it to tepid temps, then the dogs had jackets on. The side glass walls protect from the cold. The dogs were not cold. California is dog loving state. In so cal and norcal many dept stores allow them in the building. Dogs gotta shop too!

Yes! The dogs that go to the beach closest to me, can't wait to jump into the icy cold water. They don't have to...they want to!

Home and Family did a feature on the Lucy Pet float and Paige got to drive the shell. It looked nothing like what I saw during the parade!

The head guy was on there and said that the driver is a guy from Vermont who flies in just to drive the float! Very interesting!

The float made the national news. Great exposure and publicity for Lucy Pet and the work they do spaying/neutering dogs and cats. I hope they get lots of new customers! Here's an interesting factoid--their "spokescat" surfs in the tank too, just not when the dogs are around. LOL
